I see it doesnt bind as strongly to dopamine receptors as all the other antipsychotics yet its the most effective according to studies. It binds much more to serotonin and other receptors. Isnt that weird? I wonder if my negative symptoms would be better on it.
My negative symptoms are not helped much by clozapine. Definitely helps positive symptoms and somewhat with anxiety. I am very drug resistant unfortunately. Clozapine has a multitude of not so wonderful side effects but is also very effective otherwise. Kind of a damned if you do damned if you don’t situation.
I found this online so it seems that Serotonin receptors indirectly control dopamine:
It is proposed that schizophrenia may also involve a dysregulation of 5-HT2- and D-2-mediated neurotransmission, and that a more normal balance in serotonergic and dopaminergic neurotransmission is at least partially restored by clozapine.
I have heard of a couple people on clozapine holding jobs. I think it’s supposed to be sedating though. My psychiatrist said there may only be side effects from it if the dose is too high. Except for drooling at night I think he said that may happen. He was going to send me information about success stories from it but I haven’t seen anything.
Can’t tell you how it works chemically, but I think that in reality it makes you very sleepy and then fat.
I don’t know if I have met anyone on clozapine holding a job.
I dont think meds make a big difference anymore, I am on 6mg risperdal and stay in bed most of my time, there is a user here who is on 6mg risperdal, he’s doing much better than non mentally ill ppl, he’s a Dr.
I might try clozapine. This article says it is good for negatives also. I am getting headaches on latuda and I’m not sleeping very good.
I had insomnia, akathisia and nausea on Latuda.
I have at apt with pdoc 28 this month, I will see what she thinks about clozapine.
I got sick at week one of clozapine. Doesn’t hurt to try it. Hugs
The psychiatrist said that a phlebotomist is going to come to the house to do the blood draws.
Oh so you’re on Clozapine now? How is it?
I start next week he was supposed to schedule a blood draw before starting and I haven’t seen that appointment yet.
@Rester I just got prescribed Clozapine.
Cool hope it can help your negatives some. I wasn’t sure if you would try that one. Don’t skip the blood draws. I haven’t started yet I’m a little nervous I have to do an EKG next week.
Same, this monday.
Did they say what your target dose will be can you get by on like 300mg? Or do they want to give you a high dose?
