Anyone has schizophrenic relatives?

Since, as I previously discussed in another thread, I come from a family with several people with schizophrenia, I wonder if that is the case for everyone in here?

Didn’t know it when diagnosed which could have helped totally as I was dxed depressive with paranoia!

My mothers had two Aunts who were and one is still going, schizophrenic. It was hidden and never spoke about in the family and I only learned years later!

I have a history of schizophrenia from mum’s side and depression from dads.

Didn’t win the lottery on that one!

I had a cousin with sz who died. First cousin. Much of my family has mental illness. She was the only sz. I’m sza.

Most people in my family have either depression or bipolar. Or nothing at all.

It’s odd being the only one. No one in my fam even knew what schizoaffective was until I had to explain it. They understood bipolar/depression but not Sz/SzA.

All I know is that my Grandpa was diagnosed with psychotic depression. He is no longer with us :(, but he lived a long life. Well into his mid 80’s. Had a psychiatrist tell my family that it is treated the same as sz/sza.

My dad had sz but no longer has it

My mother had severe bipolar but looking back I believe she was SZA like me.

i have a second cousin with sz

How Did your Dad get rid of SZ? It’s rare to overcome it I think.

I have no idea.

I have an aunt who my family thinks might be schizoaffective. Other than her, it’s just me😕

My brother and dad both have it. My dad is extremely high functioning to the point you forget he has it and we’re working with my brother right now. He’s not able to hold a job or really do much at the moment. :frowning:

I think a cousin of my father has it. There’s that story saying that when he was young, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. I am not sure though

Does that mean your uncle has it

Yes, an uncle. Not sure though. None of my parents or grandparents

Let’s hope future generations have it better than us. I’m the only sz in my family so far. I hope I’m the only one.

I am the only schizophrenic too and it was a shock to my father to hear from the lips of psychiatrists that I am ill
