How effective, & what side effects?
Work for what? Seizures? Bipolar? Sz?
In order: Pretty well. Sometimes. Rarely.
For my flat effect. Due to haldol…
I take it for my bipolar it works for me and no side effects

Nope. I almost got a prescription in the winter but then my symptoms improved.
I took it for a while, it made my moods worse - lots of irritability

I used to take it. It was helpful to stabilize my mood. Probably one of the best meds I’ve been on.

It was fine, probably the best mood stabilizer that I’ve been on. Absolutely no side effects.
It’s hard to say if lithium or lamictal is more effect to stabilize bipolars. Both are very good in my experience though, but with a lot of side effects from lithium.
I’m not sure how effect they are for people w/ sz dx tho. You have bp or sz dx? And for how long?

This doc says bipolar with psychosis…but I hear voices and have thought broadcasting. So I’m not sure.
Don’t you think it’s interesting how so many sz pts misinterpret each other’s comments?
I didn’t expect you to understand – or be responsible for the fact – that Lamictal is an anti-seizure med used for mood-leveling. I was cracking wise about a doc prescribing it for dealing with flat affect when it has no conceivable capacity to do so, and in fact should be expected to cause it, not relieve it.

used to take lithium. terrible side effects. been on lamictal for years and years. helps a lot with mood swings, particularly helps w/ behavior control (outbursts, impulsive behaviors)
no side effects. really like it.
I just started my 1st dose last night of lamictal. The pharmacist was telling what a great drug it is her son is on it and when he takes it he’s a different person, so I have high hopes for it. It wasn’t on my list of meds to try but the pdoc highly recommended it. I hadn’t thought of adding a mood stabilizer. Plus little to no sexual side effects according to him. Just possibility of a rash during the first few weeks while I taper up. He suggested taking 25mg of zoloft to help with the withdrawal insomnia I’ve had since stopping it. And continuing 150mg wellbutrin. Wish me luck.
