Antipsychotics Expensive

Do you qualify for extra help @roxanna? Through Medicare?

The research to create new meds is funded by taxpayers. Then they use the medication to extort you and make money. Its not a very normal situation.

In the UK, they were trying to make it illegal to patent medication. Not sure where they are on that. They should really just stop funding companies that are patenting meds.

Arenā€™t you guys going bankrupt under socialism? Thank God you guys left the EU.

Here in America, weā€™re going to end up like Venezuela.

Iā€™m a capitalist. I think research investments are risky. A lot are duds. People are giving up on schizophrenia. I dont mind if they make billions.

Where did you hear taxpayers are funding them? They are private companies with share holders. Tax payers fund your public health insurance, meds, housing, etc.

Iā€™m very, very fortunate that Iā€™m on new meds because of private insurance. My dad worked 50+ years full time. Im covered until he dies or im recovered. Hopefully by then, Iā€™ll have more money or ill accept the generics.

I dont believe in socialism and communism.

Yes, APā€™S are expensive in South Africa too. My amisulpride and olanzapine and lamotrigine together cost about R2000 (donā€™t know how much that is in dollars, perhaps $150 or so). I take the minimum dose to save money.

I can get my meds free here too, but it involves a whole dayā€™s wait in governmental community clinics. I donā€™t have the patience to wait all day so I get it privately.

In my case, I was told medi-cal doesnā€™t pay for brand names. But if you get like a county plan they might. You have to ask, read, and get a pre-authorization from a doctor saying you need it.

No. Doing great here thanks. We might be under a lot of debt after covid, but were doing great thanks.

I donā€™t pay anything towards my meds (Invega Sustenna 100mg) Anybody with a chronic illness donā€™t have to pay towards their perceptions in the U.K. Perceptions can be anything from prescription toothpaste to continence aids. Or dental care. I have perfect teeth, never had a filling in 34 years because of NHS dental care that Iā€™ve never paid for including scrape and polish.

I feel sorry fo poor Americans.

We donā€™t get the hordes of homeless in our cities like you do in the States. Europe is a much fairer place. Iā€™m so glad I wasnā€™t born in America and having this illness.

In mainland Europe, abilify costs 4ā‚¬ a month.

Enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Iā€™m exiting this thread. Goodbye.

Meds gets first to the US before any other country.
Its takes many years for new US meds to reach other countries.

Pretty rubbish when you canā€™t afford them though.

With insurance like Medicaid you can and many schizophrenics like me have rich parents which can afford them even without insurance.

Many people canā€™t.

I donā€™t mean to sound negative about America. America is a great country and has many great people.

I have medicaid and they give me an outrageous deductible because I make too much money from my disability money which is 900 a month cant afford their deductible so I cant use them to get meds

Weird, I have medi-cal zero cost meaning I pay zero for everything. I got private insurance too.

I had a local government plan that was even better but I canā€™t get it anymore because of private insurance. They covered genetic testing too.

Maybe itā€™s different in california because I have Medi-Cal not just Medi-caid.
