Adderall + Risperidone?

My nurse practitioner wants to prescribe adderrall for my cognitive impairment, but I’m on risperidone. Don’t these two drugs do opposite things?

Does anyone else take a stimulant + an antipsychotic?

One increases dopamine and can cause serious psychosis. The other blocks dopamine. It’s your life. I wanted to try adderall but every doctor said no. I often felt like I had mild dementia.

I was on Risperidone and Ritalin. I was in college. I suddenly had homicidal thoughts. I’ve been doing nothing ever since.

Be very careful with stimulants @anon1517417.
I would think twice about trying it.
It could trigger or worsen psychosis.

My doctor said no when I wanted to try Provigil.
She said it would make me instantly psychotic.

Adderall FTW.

There is not an interaction in the sense that the presence of one drug will cause increased amounts of the other or is more likely to increase certain other side effects. Both have the potential to make people feel restless or anxious, though, as if they have to move around a lot.

I take Concerta (108 mg once daily) and Ritalin (10 mg once daily) along with the antipsychotic Abilify (15 mg once daily). I haven’t had any problems and the stimulants helps me tremendously.

Do you have ADHD?

Yes, I do.

I’m not sure. I do have many of the problems people with ADHD suffer from, particularly some pretty severe working memory deficits, but I did not have them before my psychotic break. So I guess if I have ADHD, it was induced by damage from my psychosis.

I don’t know. No one has ever shared one with me. I had a somewhat prolonged drug-induced psychotic break and then a neuropsych exam that showed cognitive impairment after the psychosis.

Well, they thought I had ADD (not ADHD?) as a child but I was never put on medication. Maybe it was just the ADHD craze or something. Thank god. My mom sometimes thinks I had mild Aspergers. I’ve read that ADHD and Aspergers can be comorbid. Furthermore, my former psychologist said I might have a learning disability and he thought 10% of those with Aspergers go on to develop schizophrenia.

I’ve been told I definitely have Aspergers and that I don’t. It really depends on who I talk to. Some people just scoff at my diagnosis. Like I’m too high functioning or I’m a hypochondriac or I’m a phony.

I drink energy drinks everyday because I’m lacking something inside. Furthermore, I believe I have cognitive impairment from Aspergers and schizophrenia.

My therapist (a psychologist) insists I have Aspergers but all my other doctors are like, wtf is she talking about? I guess Aspergers in girls presents differently than it does in boys, which is apparently why it’s often missed. For what it’s worth, I don’t think I have it. I read like 3 books on it after my therapist diagnosed me, and a lot of it doesn’t fit, particularly the childhood stuff. It was frustrating though because she would mention it all the time like, oh that makes sense because of the Aspergers. I finally had to tell her that I really didn’t think I had it and it was sort of bothering me that she kept bringing it up. I don’t know, maybe I have it and I’m just in denial.
