Anxiety and threw up on the phyc ward… It didn’t suit me
Abilify didnt work out for me, but Im not going to bad mouth the drug, because its your fist experience on it @Erez_Shmerling.
Abilify is a very popular medication, psychiatrists love to prescribe it because it is usually a safe drug.
Good luck with it!
Im under the impression Abilify over 8+ years permanently cured or reduced the schizophrenia. When I was fifteen I had a psychotic episode and was put on Abilify when it was new. None of the other medications seemed to work or only heavily sedated me but didn’t stop the hallucinations or fearful delusions. I had severe paranoia and persecution delusions. I was seeing the future and stopped believing in conditional reality. The complexity of schizophrenia is that when you have delusions, and your filter is broken it makes it impossible to feel secure as your mind just goes radical and chaotic for answers. The Abilify made me suggestible to therapies and conditioned me back to normal behavior. I also started self-advocating and learned to be more responsible. The risks of all medicines are high blood sugar and asthma. In the past two years my psychiatrist has slowly reduced the dosage of Abilify and I have gone without any medicine for a year with no adverse effects. Abilify is the safest anti-psychotic I know of and is good for cognitive deficit and learning in Autism, depression and mood regulation in Bipolar mania and Paranoia plus negative thoughts in Schizophrenia. It works more to balance the chemicals as opposed to build up and release them as in SSRI’s and doesn’t fully block them like older anti-psychotics. For me it’s always been the choice of medication if I were to become manic or psychotic again. However, after taking it regularly for 8 years I haven’t had a remission and I haven’t been back inpatient since I was seventeen. The main thing you need is to stay on top of your education and to practice grounding; at first you might feel moody or strange, but as things stabilize you will find you have an advantage of calmness and more accurate memories. Good luck!
I get really awesome dreams on Abilify. 30mgs will be good for sleep, 15mgs stimulates me at night. I found 30 mgs was the most effective dose for calming anxiety and I think better to start out low, increase over time and then decrease as the delusions wear off. B-vitamins and Niacine in combination with Abilify can produce excellent results. I take Niacine every day and B-complex. I also started D vitamins for depression and E vitamins for skin and health.
