So I spoke to my pdoc about this. About whether it’s acting as an antipsychotic. She says research is done on a lot of people to derive statistics. But as an individual … treating me as an individual not a statistic… it may have worked to keep psychosis at bay. I’d like your input on that please?
5mg is not usually enough to have a therapeutic effect, you really need at least 10mg for it to be effective. I hope your doc is not keeping you on this dose to ‘see what happens’ for the sake of research, she should be more concerned about keeping you well. But if you feel that the 5mg is keeping you well, that’s great, and maybe she’s realised that a (usually) sub-therapeutic dose is working for you and she finds that interesting in terms of statistics.
You misunderstood. I know 5mg has no effect on psychosis so I asked and she said not to go by statistics. She is looking at me as an individual and what works for … me.
Some AP’s they give In sub therapeutic dosages at least for positive symptoms for use in treating negative symptoms. I’m thinking amisulpride!
Sorry, I did misunderstand, that’s good she is treating you as an individual and what works for you rather than going ‘by the book’.
Id just let her know if it’s working or not. Drs like to ramp up drugs
I think it’s great that she’s looking at how it affects you personally, as you may be an outlier. Also, if there’s any chance that psychosis is tied to moods for you (it very much is for me), the antidepressant effect of a low dose of abilify may be doing a lot to help you.
Well it worked for psychosis … I think but she upped it because of my inability to hold down a job and lack of concentration. Apparently I’m slightly up.
Perhaps. Looks like bipolar is more and more of a possibility. I’m now starting on 10mg
