Sorry you aren’t losing any weight. That sucks. I have problems with bulimia too and it isn’t any good. Please don’t go back to the bulimia - it isn’t healthy.
My sister lost a load of weight on a low carb diet. Personally I tried it and it made me feel weird.
Thank you @Jimbob and @everhopeful. I’m sorry you have had to struggle with bulimia too James.
I think I might buy myself some new scales over the weekend. The ones I have cost $15 from k-mart. Maybe there are better ones on the market for a bit more money.
3.8kg in a week! Gosh!
The diet I’m on is called ‘lite n easy’ I have my food delivered to me once a week. Lunches and dinners.
I have a diet meal replacement shake for breakfast because I can’t think about food until about 11am.
I get two snacks with my lunch meal, usually fruit and nuts or crackers. I have the fruit in the morning and the crackers or nuts in the afternoon.
Sometimes I have a very low calorie muesli bar (88calories) in the afternoon as well if I’m still a bit peckish after lunch.
Lunch is a protein and salad sandwich on small pieces of wholegrain bread.
Dinner is protein and vegetables in a small portion. Very occasionally I have a pasta meal. I don’t eat dessert.
There’s plenty of food throughout the day for me to eat and I’m never going hungry.
I was losing sensible amounts of weight by sticking to lite n easy and exercising sometimes twice per day on the treadmill at home then also walking to work.
I had one cheat day last week where I ate a veggie burger and fries and had a glass of lemonade.
How in heavens could I possibly gain 3.8 kilos and put myself over my initial starting weight?
I spoke to my psychiatrist about losing weight and told him I’m on lite n easy. He told me he had done lite n easy before and it could take a few months before I start losing weight. Maybe my body is still adjusting to eating so much (I’ve never been a big eater so I’m eating more now that I normally would).
I’m going to stick with it. There’s no way I could buy for myself the variety of food I get delivered with lite n easy and there’s no way I could stick to the smaller portion sizes if I had to buy my own bread and cook my own dinner. Plus I hate cooking so this suits me just fine!
No that’s the strange thing. I eat bread everyday and I don’t feel bloated. I actually feel better than I’ve felt in a long time. Everything is working really well in my body at the moment. I feel so much healthier on this diet.
I wish I knew. I still think you should get new scales, just in case.
But don’t get depressed about it. Dieting is just a game. It’s a challenging game.
If it was happening to me, and the scales were accurate, I’d have to drop my calorie intake. But you’re pretty low as it is. So I wouldn’t .
“Women should not consume less than 1,200 calories a day,” Brownell cautions. In fact, a diet below 1,000 calories a day (called a very low-calorie diet or VLCD) increases your risk for gallstones and heart problems and should be followed only by obese people under a doctor’s supervision.
I think I might go out and buy some new scales today. I have to prepare myself that maybe the lower reading of 63kg was the wrong reading.
It’s just strange to me because when I started this diet I started at 65.4 and measured my weight in weeks where I went down to 64.5, then 63.4, then 63kg. That all seems to be in line with healthy weight loss and the numbers were all relatively close to one another.
But then to jump up to 66.8 in a week, something is going on.
It sounds like a bit too much information, but my body might be getting ready to menstruate. I never know if/when I’m going to get a period on my medication. So I might be gaining weight ahead of that.
I just feel a bit hopeless about the situation I guess. I’m trying really hard. The food I’m eating is really healthy and I’m exercising and really enjoying my new lifestyle. It just seems to me that I might have to deal with no real results from this lifestyle change.
Maybe my weight is just really erratic an fluctuates wildly.
My psychiatrist said the medication can make it tough to lose weight but I wouldn’t attribute a 3.8kg gain in a week to medication alone. If that were the case, I would have ballooned in weight a long time ago and I would be in a very different position now.
I weighed 57kg before starting medication. At my highest, I had a total weight gain of 8kg since starting medication which isn’t bad in the grand scheme of things. I know a lot of people have a much higher weight gain to contend with.
I sound obsessed about this. Truthfully I am. Like I said in an earlier post, I was bulimic for a few years at one point. At my lowest I weighed 43kg. That was stupid skinny and I’m not aiming for that again. I just want to get close to where I was before starting medication.
I really appreciate your kindness and replies @everhopeful. You’re always there for me in a tight spot.
I have to prepare myself that maybe the lower reading of 63kg was the wrong reading.
That could be the case.
But, Also, as you said if you were routinely gaining 4kg a week, then you certainly would have noticed. So I wouldn’t stress about it too much. This is a blip.
It’s just a mystery at the moment.
If you’re eating 1200/ day and exercising , over the long term, you’re bound to lose weight. Hang in there!
@anon84763962 you are doing all the right stuff and I bet you have a big loss next week. Keep doing the right stuff it works. Just keep doing it the right way and you will succeed. I put a frowny face on my calendar when stuff like that happens so I can see that it doesn’t happen very often.
You feel good so keep at it. Love hearing about your walking and such please hang in there.
@anon84763962, @twinkit is right, just keep doing what you’re doing, and over the next few months you’ll see big results. Also @Skims might have a point about putting on some muscle mass. But don’t be discouraged, dieting is a case of 2 steps forward and 1 step back.
If it’s any consolation, I’m going to be in trouble with my dietician. I’ve gained 1kg and I have to see them this week. So that’s my step back…
Day 24: Hopped on the scale today for an official weigh in, haven’t done that in about 2 weeks, just assumed I haven’t lost any. Did indeed lose 2lbs. Pretty sure its not just water weight as I’ve been slugging the water and walking a lot and doing some yoga and pilates. Made friends again with MFP and have been logging regularly. Not used to using the food scale yet, so it often gets forgotten. I found a website that pays you $ for exercising its called AchieveMint.com
You can’t eat less calories as you’re on 1200/day as it is. It’s dangerous for you to go any lower.
I’d still keep doing what you’re doing, and see if it starts to go down. You don’t sound like you’re doing anything wrong. It’s a mystery at the moment.
