23 and Me DNA test

Has anyone done the 23 and Me DNA test? What did you think of what you found out?

I just did the genealogy one and got my results today. No surprises really.

I like the extended relative network they plug you into though. It’s like a Facebook for cousins. I guess if I ever need a kidney I can go ask my new family. Just kidding. I don’t even know how that stuff works.

This is me I guess. Pretty much Irish and Italian, as expected.

I did ancestry.com. they sent me results that I was stuff I had never heard off. Later they updated the results and the stuff they then said I was was more of what I expected to hear in the first place. So those tests are not always accurate. But they said as they keep getting more DNA to compare it to, they can get more accurate results.

I should have done Ancestry. I think their database is twice the size. 23 and Me says I have more Neanderthal DNA than 65% of its members. Maybe that would go down with a bigger sample size!

Actually, I wonder if that’s why I have so much anxiety. Maybe my brain is still primed to fight off bears and wildcats.

Didn’t work for me so they had to give me my money back

Do they notify you if they update your results?

No I went to log in to my account and they told me then.

How could it not work for you?

I’m curious too. Was there something wrong with your sample (not enough spit?) or are you not a human?

I think there is a pretty big difference between British and Irish as well as French and German. I will just think you as Italian. Much respect for them.

I would never do this. These guys take and sell your genetic data for profit. Definitely not for me, Id like to know where my ancestry is but Id be way to paranoid about who has my genetic material and information, no sir

You’re nearly 100% European. 73% British and Irish. French and German. A little bit Scandinavian. Were there any surprises for you?

How did the different DNA analysis companies compare? Were your results the same?

I thought you are Indian? Maybe they dont have enough DNA from India to compare it with.

I did FTDNA and I’m European Swiss, Italian, Greek, German, Afghanistan, Israel, Algeria and Native American. Being from Mexico I thought I’d have Spanish in me but nope, no Spanish anywhere…lol

??? What did they say your ancestry was??? You look Indian.

I would like to have this DNA test done in the future. All my ancestry since the beginning of the 1700s is from the same region where I live now. However my grandfather’s father is a mystery, he was born in Vyborg during the time of Imperial Russia when Finland was a part of this imperium. Do not know who his father was.
