Did anyone have their DNA tested at ancestry.com only for them to tell you later that it was wrong? This is exactly what happened to me. At first the tried to tell me I was either Italian or Greek, Scandinavian English and a little Irish and German. It was a total shock. Never heard of anybody being Greek or Italian in my family along with the Scandinavian. It was totally unheard of. Now they are telling me I’m most likely 47% German, 37% English, and 16% Irish. Which totally makes more sense to me. They say they now have more DNA to compare results to now. Oh and also the ancestry results could change in the future ad they continue to get more DNA to compare it against. What is the point of getting the test done if the ancestry results are not accurate?
The results will become more and more accurate as people submit their dna. Eventually it’ll be super reliable.
Would be interesting to know who Ancestry.com shares your DNS with.
They found some serial killer because his relatives had summited DNA. It wasn’t to ancestry.com but another company that does the same thing. I believe ancestry.com is fighting to stop this from happening. As far as this is concerned I’m not sure which side I’m on.
I did it and the same thing happened, they gave me some odd results and then a few months later I logged in and they had ‘updated’ the results - ( to more believable mixes). It’s kinda weird they changed about 25% of the original results, so I guess we’ll have to log in next year and see what’s changed.
Ancestry is running a holiday special. The $99 package is $59. I didn’t know how inaccurate it was.
My parents used 23 and Me.
It might be better.
At the moment these dna tests of your ancestry are to be taken with a pinch of salt when it comes to ethnicity. They are good at a continental level ie Europe from Asia but less good at a subcontinental level ie France from Germany, for example.
If you want a better guide to your ancestry check out,if possible, where your cousin matches come from.
Yeah it’s not too reliable at the moment and I wouldn’t put much stock into it!
I’m pretty sure I saw where the world wide population of humans got down to around 2000 individuals. We all came from there it seems!
It’ll improve with time for sure! That is a no brainer!
