2 week mark! Hooray!

After abusing Ativan for 6 months, I’ve officially hit the 2 week mark of being off of them. I’m starting to feel better I think. No seizures which is good. I’m proud of myself

Be prepared for the withdrawal symptoms to come and go for the next few months.

Congrats on quitting. Ativan is a hard med to kick. I had to go to a detox. Couldn’t take the withdrawal.

When did you start to feel better? Explain to your recovery process?

I was in detox for about three weeks. They weaned me off with klonopin and gave me pheno barbital for withdrawal. I went to a recovery hospital for about a month after. I had really bad rebound anxiety for a couple months and bouts of spontaneous anger. It was hard to leave the house. I didn’t calm down till about the 4 month mark. I didn’t really have withdrawal after the hospital stay. Just the anxiety and anger.

That makes me worry that it took that long for you. I hope it doesn’t take me ,4, months to beat this

Unfortunately benzo withdrawal can last for a long time. It’s called protracted withdrawal. I had been on ativan for a lot longer than 6 months though. This was back when they basically gave out benzos like candy. I had an unlimited supply. I was drinking heavily at the time and that made things worse. That’s the reason my doc at the time sent me to a detox center. I wouldn’t have been able to stop on my own.

Hope you’re doing better these days man

Wow u guys are brave …I was thinking to add Ativan to my list of meds I take …do you think taking Ativan once a week can cause withdrawal and dependence ???

Taking it once a week isn’t enough to get addicted too

Congratulations @TheCanuk.
How are you dealing with your anxiety?

I am, but I’m on klonopin now. I can’t handle the overstimulation and anxiety of being in public without it. The difference now is I only take a low dose and I don’t take more than I’m supposed to. It is easier to be compliant as I have gotten older.

What about withdrawal ?

Probably not unless your on it for a long time.

Anxiety is there for sure but I’ve dealt with worse.

Ok thanks for letting me know

It will get easier the longer you are off of it. You’ve already tackled the biggest challenge, by getting off of it. Just let people know if you are having temptations. It helps to talk it over.

The first 5 days or so I couldn’t stop pacing back and fourth. I can actually sit still now.

Did you suffer blurred vision by any chance?
