14 psychiatrists can’t be wrong

I’ve seen 14 different psychiatrists and they all agreed I had schizophrenia until my diagnosis changed to schizoaffective disorder bipolar type and then all the psychiatrists I saw after that agreed with that diagnosis. 14 psychiatrists can’t be wrong I’m thinking.

I’ve had multiple diagnoses and multiple psychiatrists over the years. The majority opinion has been Schizophrenia so I go with that. However, psychiatry is not an exact science, that is why lots of patients have had multiple diagnoses from different pdocs.

Even “the bible” of psychiatry called the DSM completely changed a bunch of stuff regarding schizophrenia when it went from version 4 to version 5, who knows what version 6 will say, it could totally change again. Until they know exactly what these diseases are, what causes them and develop some kind test (blood, DNA, brain scan, etc…) it will remain a bit of a guessing game, it’s mostly just conjecture and theories…although it is a fact something is wrong with us.

I don’t really care about the label anymore, I’m just glad the meds work.

That’s all I know for sure. Something is really wrong with me and has been for years and I still get symptoms but not as bad as before.

I feel the same way. I’m doing a lot better now that I’m stable on meds. My head was all screwed up when I was unmedicated. Luckily I only had to spend one weekend in jail before they sent me to the psych ward and they put me on meds.

Diagnosis can change over time and usually does. I’ve also found it depends on where you are in the world. In Oz I’m parnoid sz with major depression. In the states when I lived there they wanted to say I was sz aff. I think sz aff is more popular over there but honestly it’s the treatment that is what is important.

There used to be like 5 or 6 subtypes of sz but that has declined in favor of the modern medical approach.

It sounds like they were.

I had a lot more pdocs say I have sz than sza but it changed lately because the diagnosis became clearer. And the meds for sz (antipsychotics) are essential for me but not enough for me as I need mood stabilizer and antidepressant as well, so I fit meds profile for sza better as well. My four last pdocs agree I have sza

In my experience, once you are diagnosed with a manic episode anytime in your life, even once, your sza, bipolar type diagnosis is going to stay with you forever. @anon21849028

14? Lol. How so?
I only had 4.

Because I went to three different psych wards, got involuntarily committed and saw a few psychiatrists because of that and saw three psychiatrists at Assertive Community Treatment. Now I only see two psychiatrists at Assertive Community Treatment.

Yeah i had the assertive outreach team at first. Now they just jab me every 4 weeks and let me get on with it. Infact i told the support worker they could shove the next one up their rectum lol.

Im actually interested to see whether they are gonna force it. Theyve gone to pot lately. And they caught me in a bad mood.

Saying that - ill probably wind my neck in and have it done anyway. I just wanted them to be aware of my displeasure.

Well said @Headspark
