First 15,then 10 mg…
Can five change weight gain?
Anyone on small doses?
You shouldn’t gain anymore weight after reducing by 5mg, you may lose a little.
When i reduced my Olanzapine I lost weight. Currently on 2.5mg
Thanks,but I cant go down from 5 mg…
I think you misunderstood me. You said in your first post you went from 15mg down 10 mg. That is a reduction of 5mg which is what I meant.
When you went from 15 to 10, thus reducing by 5mg, you may lose some weight now, that is what I meant.
Ok,do you think I will loose on 5 mg.
I think it’s low dose?
On olanzapine, I went from 5 mg to 7.5 mg. No weight gain. I never did have a weight problem with that med. I did with risperdahl, though.
Thanks @PinCushion …
I gained weight so fast on Zyprexa I called my pdoc and made an appointment in one month. She switched me off it. On Seroquel, I gained 90 pounds in one year. Quit that one too.
I spent a few years experimenting with other AP’s after Olanzapine made me put on a load of weight.
Was the best decision I made.
Unfortunately you have to pick you poison as in what side effects you want to have.
Weight gain is now a red line for me
I refuse anything that has this listed as common.
Currently I pick on that gives me high prolactin and cholesterol
can you gain weight even if you count calories for 1800 kcal a day on olanzapine?
Idk,never tried to count…
I’ve lost on zyprexa. It’s hard work especailly if your older. I gained a heap on risperdal. Zyprexa I’ve maintained and recently started losing. It’s always a battle with certain meds for sure but we all react differently.
You have to watch what you eat and exercise…not many of us on meds get away with not doing those things.
5 mg is less medicine so should give less weight Gain.
Ive gained lots of weight on Olanzapine. Im 5’6 and 245 pounds. Way overweight.
When i first took risperidone i gained 30kg in 6 months… i rather have parkinsonism with typical APs than being fat pif with atypicals
I’ve been on olanzapine 20-2,5mg. Currently on 5mg. I find weight management easier on low doses. I think it’s because I get less urges to eat and also it’s easier to be active and excersise. Less apathy.
I’ve been on 10 mgs for 25 years. I worked out for the first 10 years I was on it. I went from 140 lbs to 190 I was solid mussel. Since I quit working out I gained 10 lbs up to 200. When I started taking Valium I gained another 20 lbs. Together the valium and zyprexa caused more weight gain then just the zyprexa alone. I’m not worried about it the extra weight fits my frame. I’m sure sitting on my ass all day doesn’t help. I’d start working out again but my joints are getting sore.
All ap meds I have tried caused weight gain both indirectly and directly. But imo its the negative symptoms, lack of physical activity, that cause most of the weight gain. On Zyprexa I developped high cholesterol, high blood pressure and prediabetes.
Then they put me on Abilify and I was eating as much or more BUT bcz on Abilify I had much less negative symptoms, I was able to go to the gym 4-5x 1-2h every week so I was 80lb less than on all the other meds, 200lb. Now on Risperdal I am 285lb mainly bcz of negative symptoms, I stay in bed most of the time everyday and never get out of the house.
200lb is the lowest I have been after sz but before sz my weight was 140-145lb muscle. Before sz I was going to the gym for 2h daily, sometimes twice in a day. I was also following a low carb low fat high protein diet.
Yes,ap’s do things…
I was curious about Zyprexa, because I use it for two years, and I want to cut down to 5 mg.
I think it will go away (weight)…
