Zyprexa (olanzapine) Once a day or twice a day? which one workes better?

I was wondering, if you are on Zyprexa (olanzapine), do you take it twice a day or once a day?

I figured out Zyprexa works much better for me if I break the pills (mine can be broken) and take one half in the evening and one part in the morning. I mean same dose (10mg) but instead of one whole pill I take 5 + 5.

But I read a study that for schizophrenia, it works actually much worse if you take it twice as opposed to once in the evening. So I’m confused.Study <—

It’s also still not clear whether I have schiozophrenia or schizoaffective disorder or perhaps just bipolar + Asperger’s without any schizophrenia. I was wondering whether this twice a day regiment is helping me with something other than schizophrenia.

So I want to hear from your experience about once daily zyprexa vs twice daily zyprexa for whatever illness you might have.

I take 60mg zyprexa: 3 times a day x 20mg

well that sounds a bit too much. I think, when taking such astronomical doses, there is no way around taking it as multiple doses, as one large 60mg dose would be probably an extremely bad idea. I’m rather talking about regular doses like 10 or 20. And I must add, that 5 + 5 daily helps me WAAAAY better than 30mg at night, which I used to take a couple of years ago… weird stuff going on here…

I also take 60mg abilify and 50mg haldol. It’s the perfect combo for me

I thinks it’s fine to take Zyprexa in divided doses if this works for you.
Discuss with your psychiatrist.

Once or twice a day should have equal antipsychotic effect. It doesn’t matter. I take my Seroquel all in the night, but with the two tablets just spaced apart a bit to reduce side effects.

Zyprexa is a sh*t drug…i hated it. I gained 50 pounds and was tired all the time. Glad i swotched to abilify. I lost most of the weight i gained from zyprexa and don’t feel like a zombie all the time.

Works well for me. I take it at night. I’m on 10mgs too but I don’t think it matters but I’d ask your psydoc.

Some meds need to be taken twice daily because their efficiancy is like 12 hours. Zyprexa is like 24 so I don’t really see an issue if it works for you!

When i used to take Olanzapine, i used to take it in divided doses. I used to take 5 mg in the morning and 10 mg at night. I came off the drug, however, as it made me gain too much weight. Just keep talking with your pdoc. Everyone is different so what works for you may not work for someone else. If you find the divided dose helpful, then that’s a great thing.

I took 20 mg in the night and 10 mgs in the morning… Was a good med for my brain !!

Just made me fat and messed with my sugar levels, and i really wasn’t prepared to counter that with another med !! QQ

I take 10 in the morning and 15 at night. I think it works better for me. I need strong coffee because of taking it in the morning.
