Antipsychotic Curiosity

I’m currently on two antipsychotics, which makes me feel like a zombie x100, and I’m still having my symptoms. I’m curious to talk to my prescriber about maybe taking less milligrams of one antipsychotic, which would be zyprexa, and completely stop taking rexulti (which gives me horrible anxiety and makes me feel like shit). What are your guys opinions? For some reason, for example, I’ve noticed the lower the dose I take of an antipsychotic the better it works, where when I’m on a higher does I still show symptoms and feel like ■■■■. What do you guys think? Should I talk to my doctor about trying to take less medicine? I mean the worst that could happen is my symptoms would increase and I would have to increase the milligrams. Let me know what you think.

All I can say is that I was on 20mg of abilify, and felt like a zombie. Then I eventually got it reduced to 10mg and it’s working out. I don’t feel like a zombie and I’m stable.

Make sure you don’t go under the “therapeutic dose” though. That’s the minimum amount you’re supposed to take for it to work as an antipsychotic.

Efficacy in schizophrenia was demonstrated in a dose range of 10 to 15 mg/day in clinical trials. However, doses above 10 mg/day were not demonstrated to be more efficacious than the 10 mg/day dose. An increase to a dose greater than the target dose of 10 mg/day (i.e., to a dose of 15 mg/day or greater) is recommended only after clinical assessment. Olanzapine is not indicated for use in doses above 20 mg/day.

So I think 10mg/day is the lowest dose for zyprexa.

Hey give me your Zyprexa if you don’t want it, I’d like to try it and see if it helps me lol

I think it is therapeutic dose for SZ…

I’m in the same predicament as you @FrankTheTank888.

My psychiatrist recently raised my Risperidone dose from 2mg to 3mg.

At my current dose of 3mg I am basically a Vegetable, all I do is sleep on my couch and stuff my face with junk food (processed carbs)

At the increased dose I am more paranoid and my agoraphobia has also worsened.

Depression, Anxiety and Delusional thinking has worsened as well.

I am not functioning like this at 3mg.

If this continues like this for another week I’m going to call my psychiatrist and see if she could lower my dose back down.

You may want to ask your psychiatrist about 150 mg/day of Seroquel.

Give it a try. In my experience I need higher doses but that’s just me.

I was an absolute train wreck on 160mg of Geodon. I am much more functional now that I’m down to 80mg. I tried 60 for a while, but it didn’t work as well. You should totally ask. Finding the proper dose is a long and complicated process.

Geodon and Seroquel have worked very well for me. I take 80 x 2 Geodon and 400 x 2 Seroquel. Some people get a lot of sedation from Seroquel, but I don’t really notice I’m taking it. Work with your pdoc to find what best works for you. I think there is a certain amount of trial and error that goes into it. Do your part with your pdoc and take the medicines she prescribes.

You’re on high doses, at least for the seroquel. I’ve been on 160 geodon and 800 Seroquel but not at the same time. Are you on Xr or immediate release? How do you handle the sedation? It makes sense that being on the meds for some time you sort of adjusted to them, but how bad was it when you first started?

If I take too low of a dose I get psychotic.

I have never really felt the Seroquel in my system. It feels like I don’t get any effect at all. The Geodon is pretty mild for me. It does control my symptoms, though. I’m on immediate release.
