Zyprexa 5mg

Hi I am currently taking 5mg of Zyprexa. Just started it a week ago. Haven’t felt anything different yet, like heavy sleepiness or anything else.

Does anyone here take zyprexa and how long does it take to work?

I also take abilify, effexor and lyrica. I have somataform disorder with severe depression and anxiety.

Thanks

I was on it. It took a couple weeks for the effect but I was packing on lots of weight, and fast from that med. Had to stop and try something else

Hi thanks for that. I’m already heavy so dont want to put on too much more weight. I’ll give it a couple of weeks to see if it works. Will see my pdoc in two weeks so hopefully it will have kicked in by then. I was just wondering if the dose is little and might not work.

Will see how it goes.

Thanks

That is a low dose unless your quite small. I now take 15mg and have been on higher before. For me like 7.5 was as low as I could go and still get an effect I think average dose is like 10.iirc there’s 5, 10 and 20 mg tablets and even though I did they don’t recommend splitting them. If your wondering why they give you such a low dose to start is some asian people have an adverse reaction to the medication.

I’m on 7.5mg daily. Makes me sleepy when I take it. Calms my voices down and makes them more tolerable.

Psych meds can take like 4-6 weeks to see benefits. I’d at least wait that long for any real changes.

Im on abilify 10 mg too. And 2.5 mg zyprexa/olanzapine.

Im switching soon to 5 mg zyprexa and no abilify, i think it works better for me than abilify.

It works pretty fast for me. Better sleep at once. And more stable in a few weeks.

I have a somatoform diagnose too, if you remember, tinnitus, pains, fatigue, and i think zyprexa is the best drug for me, because i get better sleep and therefore more energy and calmness during the day.

Hi thanks for that. I’m Irish not Asian, but the 5mg dosage is the starting dose for my depression along with other meds, pdoc said. I’m just taking it a week now.

Hopefully 5mg will work soon. If not she may increase or try me on lithium. I’m not small so maybe she just thinks the 5mg should do the trick. I’ve treatment resistant depression so its difficult to treat unfortunately. Will see how it goes.

Thanks

Hi. My diagnosis is somataform disorder and anxiety disorder and depression. My pdoc is trying to find the right combination of meds to treat my depression because it’s very bad.

Hopefully the dosage of Zyprexa I’m on will work or she may increase to 7.5mg. Have high blood pressure as well.

Thanks

Hi hope you are keeping well. The 5mg doesn’t make me sleepy, as in it doesn’t make me sleep heavily but it may take awhile longer to work for me.

I’m hoping it will help me wake up from my depression that’s the plan. My pdoc prescribed it like as an add on booster with
effexor to kick start my dead battery:(

I’m hoping it will help me during the day. That’s when I’m at my worst. Taking a lot of meds. Was taking quietapine. Completely off that now. Taking 300mg effexor, 10mg abilify, 300mg lyrica and now the 5mg of zyprexa.

She may take out the abilify or lyrica, not sure. She does not want to mess around too much with the meds, until I become more stable I suppose.

Thanks

Thanks for that. Yeah takes time for the meds to kick in. Wont be seeing my pdoc till the 17th so might be an improvement by then:)

If the zyprexa didn’t do the trick, you should ask about increasing the abilify. That’s a pretty low dose, even for treatment resistant depression.

Hi was on 15mg of abilify before but got really bad nerves on that dose, hence why I’m taking 10mg now. I think the zyprexa may be increased if the 5mg doesn’t work. Only taking it a week now, so a couple of more weeks till I see my pdoc. Will see then if theres improvement or not I suppose.

My pdoc did say lithium is best, but needs close monitoring with bloods etc…, might have to take that if zyprexa doesn’t help the treatment resistant depression.

Thanks

yes, thanks im doing fine at the moment.

Simplifying your meds sounds like a good plan. A pdoc told my once that zyprexa is better for depression than abilify.

My own experience with Lyrica was that it didn’t help with my anxiety, depression or pains, so i weaned of.

Hope you get out of the depression soon.

Hi yes hopefully the zyprexa will work. I’m not finding the lyrica is working for me either, but my pdoc doesn’t want to mess around with withdrawing me from any of my other meds just yet. Maybe in a couple of weeks time when I see her she’ll cut back some more.

I’m still very on edge, restless and anxious. As you know I have somataform disorder and depression and anxiety so its difficult I suppose to get the right treatment while I’m the way I am.

My pdoc told me, theres no quick fix so just trying the different meds at the moment, plus it takes time for these to work.

I’m hopeful I’ll get better than what I am right now.

Glad you doing well.

I also take 5 my zyprexa. My other antipsychotic is latuda. The zyprexa makes me sleep at night. I go to bed at eight and get up at dawn. It’s a trick I learned from someone.

I’m on zyprexa just a week now. Take it at 10, dont feel any different in getting to sleep yet. I take it, and I’m still not asleep by midnight.

During the day, I take 300mg effexor, 10mg abilify and 300mg lyrica…

Am like a drug junkie, maybe I’m taking to many meds!

Will be reviewed in a couple of weeks by my pdoc, she may take me off more of the meds. Already weaned off 300mg of quietapine. No side effects being weaned off that.

Hi. I’m on 5mg zyprexa. I have been on this drug for about 15 years in different dosages. It does the job to make me sleep, but ironically it also causes severe restlessness in the daytime. That kicked in about 7 years in. Before that I was able to sleep without zyprexa, but now I have become drug dependant and need it every day to sleep. So you might want to think of zyprexa as a temporary aid, but on the other hand if you are able to stay on just one AP I would do that. The less chemicals the body gets the easier it will be for it to function normally. I have never been on more than one AP, but I imagine it increases difficulties to be on several drugs.

I do struggle with some weight gain on zyprexa. It’s not so bad on 5mg, but if you go to higher doses you can expect it will be difficult to keep your current weight.

Some supplements might be beneficial for depression. The first one that comes to mind is vitamin D. Some people report it to be toxic in high doses, but I would try to get about 1250-2500 IU each day, which is a relatively low dose. At least that seems to help me.

I also take fish oil, b-vitamin complex, l-lysine, l-carnitine(which is proven to be depleted when taking AP’s), Q10 and K2-vitamin amongst others.

For depression I would look into herbs like lemon balm, rhodiola rosea, holy basil or medical mushrooms like chaga and reishi. Maybe try one or a couple at a time and see if anything works for you. They are relatively cheap, just make sure to buy from a reputable dealer. Herbs won’t make your life choices for you, but they might make it easier to make the right choices.

Hi and thanks for your advice. Yes my pdoc went through the vitamins with me. I take a little bottle of vitamin d once a week prescribed, I take omega 3 as well. She told me vitamin b complex to take as well or any of the vitamin b’s.

I’m not feeling particularly sleepy at all on the 5mg of zyprexa. On it though just a week.

You’re right about taking too many meds and their effects. I’m hoping to be weaned off the abilify as well. Already weaned off the quietapine. Was fine coming off that.

Will try what you say, thanks for that.

Hi again just wondering, do you know how long it took for you to feel sleepy on 5mg? I can also relate to the restlessness a bit during the day. Am a bit more restless than before.
