I'm going to try out Abilify

I was wondering if anyone have switched from Zyprexa to Abilify and noticed any any improvements?(or feeling worse for that matter)

The main thing I know about zyprexa is that it is one of the more high risk aps to cause diabetes.

But I never tried it

I highly recommend trying Abilify to see if you don’t have any side effects on it I have no side effects on it

That’s great. Hopefully it works for me. How is your emotions and wakefulness on the med? Can’t you tell a difference from off meds?

Yes.

Zyprexa completely ravaged my metabolism and did absolutely nothing for my symptoms. Nada.

20mgs of Abilify is much better. Works well, doesn’t touch my mood symptoms all that much but decreases some other stuff I deal with.

I think it’s worth a shot @magz. Would ask your pdoc about Benztropine (not a benzo)— it can help with akathesia which is common on Abilify.

Good luck :+1:

I’m glad Abilify works well for you. Yeah I was a bit worried about getting akathisia, but I had akathisia on zyprexa as well, but it went away after a while. Maybe it will be the same with Abilify, or maybe I don’t get it at all. At least I’m hoping.

I took 5mg abilify just now on top of the zyprexa. No side effects so far, if anything I feel a bit calmer than usual, like its made my mind a bit quieter. I don’t know if that’s placebo or not. Fingers crossed.

Tomorrow I will begin tapering down on zyprexa. I’m kind of an impatient person so I kind of feel like doing it today… but I think it may be best to have the Abilify build up in the system a bit more before reducing zyprexa.

From my experience, what I can tell you is that you are going to lose weight or gain less weight.
You may feel less sedated.
I took both and the difference with the weight issue is enormous

Abilify works.

Probably just me, but it seemed to dull my vision in that it made the colours less saturated. Things lost their colour.

Partial agonism is also what causes EPS like akathisia.

I wonder if this would cause an increased risk of TD, do you know? @everhopeful

Today I will start decreasing the zyprexa. I’m a bit nervous but hopefully it’ll go well!

Btw I feel slightly nauseous today, not much. Could be random, could be the abilify. Could be the combination of abilify and zyprexa. It’s very subtle though.

No, I don’t know unfortunately.

What is your target dose of abilify? They say 10mg is the lowest dose for sz, but on the other hand they say 10mg about zyprexa too and I’ve gotten by on 5mg zyprexa for long stretches. Using 7.5mg now just for sleeps sake.

The doctor wanted me to end up on 10mg abilify. (I’m on 7.5mg zyprexa). I actually feel better after I added 5mg abilify on top of the zyprexa. It could be a coincidence or placebo, that I’m just having a good day. Could also be that the abilify works well with me or that I actually needed a higher dose of AP to feel better.

Maybe it’s because abilify boosts dopamine? I imagine that would feel good after being on zyprexa a long time.

It boosts dopamine? I thought that was kind of the opposite of what APs do to work?
