i went to a local clinic. the doctor teaches yoga and does reiki acupunture etc. she gave me counselling and said i am completely normal to motivate me maybe. and said i should never get attached to medicines as side effects will burn me. as i informed its prescribed for life. she also said its good to do yoga which treats body and mind as you say. now i am confused whom to believe pdoc or yoga teacher.

I would definitely listen to your pdoc. You’re normal because you take your meds.

Holistic medicine practitioners and yoga/guided meditation teachers often routinely advise detoxing the body and mind of prescription medicines for health reasons. Many believe this resets the body for a kind of healing process which can be enhanced with special techniques like mindfulness and controlled breathing and vocalised mantras. But then they are not doctors. Stopping antipsychotics or antidepressants as part of a pseudo-recovery is a huge error.

At best yoga/meditation is something to do before any kind of activity which requires a concerted effort or as a relaxation aid.

Yoga is great - while I don’t do it as I don’t feel the motivation but my cousin teaches it and I think it’s one of the best forms of exercise.

However I do not think these treatments should be above meds. In conjunction if it helps go for it.

I’m a dedicated yogini. I’ve been practicing yoga for the past twelve years and I love it. I practice gentle hatha yoga. It is gentle, calming and relaxing. It treats and effectively manages my chronic osteoarthritis, which affects my whole body. It controls my chronic insomnia and helps me sleep soundly at night. It controls my weight and appetite, tones my body and keeps me flexible and strong. I highly recommend it.

Do the Yoga, but remember, your Yoga instructor is not a doctor.
