Hi,
I’m currently in the process of finishing writing up a series of books that have to do with my experiences through schizophrenia, from a paranoid point of view. I feel that it could be helpful to lots of people, and am wondering about other people’s opinion on me doing this.

Its good but hard to get published. Ive written two books on my experiences and I haven’t got published. You need to put a lot of effort in to get published!! I wasn’t willing to do that

I believe it! There is not enough coverage on schizophrenia/psychosis. That is why I would go through all the trouble of self publishing.

I keep on daydreaming about writing a book entitled “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff for Schizophrenics” but I think Richard Carlson’s estate would be pissed. Still I think a book of short digestible essays would help a lot of patients.
My cousin published about 5 fictional books in Kindle format. She’s published, but certainly not famous.
I used to attend Recovery Inc. meetings and I thought this guy did a really nice job of writing a self-help book:

I agree with you 100%. I did find Oliver Sack’s Hallucinations book quite interesting as it is a series of essays based on many different causes of hallucinations. I’ll check out the links you shared, because I’m looking for as much help as I get right now adn the one seemed interesting.
The book I’m writing is non-fiction. I’m doing it that way because I think that it will give people another angle to look at things from. I do enjoy reading fiction books most days though, so if you can recommend any I’d happoily check it out.

If I wrote a book at least one chapter would be about identifying bad influences in my life and staying away from these people. Often schizophrenics can be attracted to people whom seem exciting but usually these people don’t care. Sometimes it should be obvious because they encourage drinking, gambling and drugs but it can be much more complicated. And it can be hard to communicate with family who may care but seem to preach.
Have you thought about self-publishing on Amazon?

I sell copies on Amazon, but I would not give them control over sales.

*I’d (as in I would) sorry about that mistake…
That would be great!. I tried to do it somewhat in one of my chapters, but it iisn’t as recognisable because everything is events based.
Maybe you can put this stuff on a blog? Then if it gains popularity you can show it to publishers to say how well it would do.

I have read about a dozen books on schizophrenia. It has been my way of working things through. I could probably write a book. May I ask a very difficult question, “What is a book?” (I am being philosophical.)

Autobiography or fiction etc.!!!
I’m planning on uploading me reading a chapter of it to youtube sometime soon, but a blog does sound like a good way to get more exposure. I’m just not completely sure how blog’s work. It is worth looking into though.

To me, a book is a collection of words in any language that is composed in order to deliver a message of any kind to the reader.

I don’t see a cure happening in our life time, but I do see the posibility for a reduced amount of stigma. I’m going to do what I can to help, and even possibly go into research for it.
