Would this make you suspicious?

Would this make you suspicious? In a 42 square metre flat . Went heavily into debit (approx £800) re electricity usage due to difference between amount paid and amount I supposedly used - over £ 70 £ a week . DD charges upped to £302 a month

Daughter questioned the amount I was supposedly using, and was told all was above board. Latest bill1Sep -30 Sep (haven’t massively cut back on the electrical items I use)=£66.95. Last month’s bill was a few £ higher . Still paying £302 DD. Debit now= £83.20

How the f*** can the amount charged change so much when there hasn’t been a massive reduction in electrical items used?!!

I’d ask to get your meter replaced.

My daughter did request that, but they refused as they said it was working OK.

I don’t think I would be suspicious. As if they did it on purpose. I think its more likely to be an error somewhere or a legit usage. Unlikely they are overcharging you on purpose, but I suppose its possible.

Did you rule out weather? I’d check your windows or something for leaks.

Can you get a smart meter display so you can see what’s happening in real time?

When I 1st moved here I can recollect there being a smart meter gadget, but I’ve not seen it for ages. I never thought to use it .

Definitely not down to legit usage . Error is certainly possible, but that has me thinking they’re about as competent and intelligent as a lobotomised dog. My daughter has phoned several times to repeatedly be given the same bs response. They’ve refused to fit a new smart meter. My usage of electrical appliances has no way reduced by nearly 80% over the last couple of months.
