Will there ever be a cure for sz?

I was wondering if there will ever be a cure for sz. Maybe there will be but I’m afraid it will happen way down the road. There’s not nearly enough research going on as far as I can tell. Sz based on what I’ve read entails over 100 different genes. To pinpoint the exact combination that causes sz and then undoing what was done is mind blowing. What do you think? Will a cure ever be found?

My opinion is that psychosis either damages or irreparabley changes the brain and nothing can fix it. Who knows?

Gene therapy (using viruses etc to insert genes into existing cells which divide into healthy new ones) is a potential answer but far more complex for the brain and with so many genes involved. I would say no cure will be found. Treatments as in meds are getting better though. It was only in 1950 modern aps were discovered. 75 years is nothing really.

My theory is that the set of symptoms that make up sz are in fact a common end point for a great deal of different conditions as yet unknown.

Kinda like if a car doesn’t start it could be due to many different things but which all end up in a non starting car.

So here sz would be ‘a non starting car’ but there are any number of circumstances that could result in this end point

I’m not sure if there will ever be a cure, but I have found a good treatment.

Making an image a day keeps the symptoms at bay.

I don’t think there can be a cure until they can find a specific cause that applies to everyone. There’s so many different things that contribute to developing sz that until they can pinpoint a cause, there will be no cure. I don’t think that it’s really considered a priority either in CRISPR research where genes are edited.

I say in 30 to 40 years, yes, there will be a cure.

There will be a cure I like to believe! 1,000 years it may take but it’ll happen! Science and research is amazing!

That is a beautiful image.

Thats thinking hopefully, which itself is better than hopelessness. Some things are possible some things are not unfortunately. Gene therapy seems to be the only probable solution for a cure, but it may not be possible . The cause is not even known yet: there is just patterns of genes found in affected people. It will be sooner that they find out if curing is possible than an actual cure. But at the same time medication will get to the point that it will not be harmful.

I doubt it in my lifetime but hopefully they can learn from my case or something.

I’m happy for you that you found a good treatment!

Yeah. It’s barbaric for sure but it’s how long for me…

My shrink isn’t too bad and has helped me out heaps and he saw the end of the institutions and the beginnings of the modern atypical antipsychotics and he thinks that the breakthroughs will come from other things…which makes sense because curing sz isn’t a high money agenda for most people these days where dementia and other concerns gain support…

So. I like and respect his idea that the breakthroughs for medical treatment will come from other avenues. It’s a pity. I’m soon to be 55 and a cure would do me good now so I can upgrade my plan to live naked in the woods with my Koala bear friends and the kangaroos…

Hilarious dude!

It’s all money my friend.

Aging populations in the western world where money is spent so most of the research money is going to dementia and other concerns. It’s just the modern world.

Don’t see the humour in it because it’s our lives but each to their own. You asked a question I answered it.

What I’d really like is a cure for Parkinson’s right now. The SZ is not a big problem in my life.

Yeah. Like I’ve an uncle with parkinsons and an old mentor. We are doing so much better because we can maintain some sort of function with meds. Parkinson’s goes south and it’s no return which really sucks. I’m sorry your suffering with it because it’s shittier outcomes.

I have a scrip I’m scared to try. Levodopa. Tried it once before and it was … not great. The muscle rigidity has reached the point where I’m willing to take a chance. That, and I am tired of constantly trying to drop expensive cameras. Some extra dopamine will help there, but at what cost?

Arf.

Yeah it’s a mega tough cop. It’s probably worth a shot but it’s crazy and I can understand your concerns. Like I have no idea of your symptoms or concerns but I’d be inclined to give it a go if it gives you better outcomes or the promise of those…it’s such a complicated thing in our worlds and appreciate the concerns of that med for you…

If they can alleviate tiredness from antipsychotics, that’s as good as a cure for me imo.
