I can’t wait to be on this forum someday and someone posts that the cure for schizophrenia has been found and it actually has
Maybe in 100 years…
It could be sooner!
I don’t think there’ll ever be a cure. Only better treatment, like being diagnosed earlier and more funds for mh treatment.
Well, my doc said you would need a genetically engineered virus that changes every cell in the entire body. It would be like a butterfly coming out of a cacoon or w/e. Not going to happen for another 150+ years or something from what it sounds like.
I just think schizophrenia is funky. Like it’s so complex and the research lags and even though some of the smartest people are working on it, they can’t seem to figure out mental illness or psychosis in general. It’s weird as heck.
I sometimes think the cure is simple as a virus but over complicated. I also sometimes think that my consciousness or soul is affected by schizophrenia and no matter what happens I’ll always have it in this life or the next even if reincarnation is real.
But it could be just purely a scientific disease/ailment and my thinking and judgement is clouded.
Maybe there is nothing spiritual at all despite the intense feeling.
Yea its grandiose to think that a sz treatment is near, its one of the worst diseases and the worst mental disease. They will find the cure for cancer before sz.
I believe so too. Scientists don’t even know 20% of sz genes yet, it will take 100 years to find 100% and 200+ years to find the cure.
Well surely they can come up with a better med than an antipsychotic I guess Karxt is hopeful also is Karxt an antipsychotic?
Yes antipsychotic but all negative symptoms meds have failed so far, Roluperidone, Caplyta, etc I don’t have much hope anymore.
Probably. I wouldn’t doubt it.
You might like Vraylar but it some people hate it or don’t like it.
Its not available in Canada my psychiatrist said.
Wouldn’t it be nice that this board would become redundant? Like it’s great for peer support but having no need because of a cure would be an amazing day. I doubt I’ll see it in my lifetime and I just turned 50. You never know though.
Old timers say they’ve been told there would be a cure for their schizophrenia and say it will never happen because it didn’t happen for them, but I guess I am more optimistic because of exponential growth in some fields. Like you see that with computers and with Moore’s Law. I think as technology advances, we’ll see more cures.
The advantage of age is that you become more aware of the patterns in society and life. Yeah, I’m aware of exponential growth and I’ve seen nothing like it in SZ medication. It has been incrementally incremental. I have less optimism for a cure now than I did a quarter century ago. Better treatments, sure. Cure? Unlikely in the next half century.
Do you still take meds?
I’m guilty of being duped by so-called miracles in drug advertising. They (the new meds, individually) are touted as amazing but soon disappoint. No longer. The largest shift I’ve seen was everyone on typicals being converted (mostly) to atypicals.
I remember when Haldol was the cure-all in the state hospital. Depressed? Haldol. Anxious? Haldol. Eating disorder? Haldol. Headache? Haldol. In-grown toenail? Haldol. Ugh. I remember so many other patients being disfigured as they snowed the patients with Haldol 4 times a day.
I’m not optimistic about any great leaps forward in sz medication. Been told that lie too much. Cure? As likely as winning the lotto. I echo what @shutterbug said: age has brought about less optimism, not more.
Yeah, probably the year 3020.
Never heard of a cure but did hear about using cocaine for a solution to sz.
We all going to die before such a cure comes. Think of the limited amount of time we have and do the best to make most out of it.
