Will olanzapine give me diabetes or i shouldn’t worry
I developed diabetes while I was taking Olanzapine. My pdoc switched me to Risperidone.
Did your diabetes go away after the switch?
I think olanzaoine is one of the aps that cause more weight gain.
I have been taking it for 4 years and I was pre-diabetic for two then I did a low-carb diet and my sugar blood went down to 88 just my experience with this med
I almost developped diabetes on olanzapine but I was quickly switched to Abilify to prevent it.
ive been on olanzapine for a while and never had any sign of diabetes until recently when my a1c jumped from 5.3 to 5.7 and is now in the prediabetic range
It depends. You have to put in a effort to keep your weight under control. The more you gain the higher chance of getting problems.
My blood sugar went down some but the elevated blood sugar didn’t go away
It gave me diabetes
Probable as well as all atypical antipsychotics.
I don’t think you will develop diabetes, but I guess it depends on age and other factors. I got up to 306 pounds on Zyprexa. Worked out 2 hours a day and got down to 265 pounds. (26 years old at the time of exercise.) Switched from Zyprexa back to Seroquel and with no exercise at all went down to 213 pounds. So is it dangerous, yes but so is Seroquel in my place and could have so many problems. Basically, take whatever works and just roll with it side effects happen, and it’s something we all have to deal with. Before meds at all weighed 160lbs lol.
I Think that it depends on what you eat. If you eat oats and veggies probably not. If you eat take sways that will be the cause of diabetes.
It’s possible I take it but also take 500 mg of metformin twice a day to help control my appetite
@INDIAN_OCEAN olanzpine will not give you dibetics directly. But will give you carvings such as eatting all the time and usually sweets and carbs. If you can not control those carvings will lead to diabetics.
No you won’t get diabetes from taking olanzapine you can get it from consuming lots of sugar. I stopped buying it years ago but still take it in coffee.
