Anyone taking olanzapine and didnt get diabetes

I just started Olanzapine and worried about getting Diabetes from it. Anyone taking this where that has not happened? A little concerned about this med.

I was on risperidone (similar culprit to olanzapine) gained 35kg in 4 months and ate sugary, but then the weight stabilized and managrd even to lose weight. Hence one time in my life I was prediabetic. The best thing you can do on olanzapine is to exercise a lot and substitute sweets with fruits

Yeah I’m trying to eat better and with foods that don’t increase blood sugar. I do exercise a lot but before meds I wasn’t eating so great. The side effects of this med worries me.

Been on olanzapine for about 15 years. So far no problem with diabetes. However I have been on about 5mg the last 8 years. I guess it’s easier to get diabetes on higher doses. Best thing to do is watch what you eat. I only ate total crap in the beginning when I was on 10mg olanzapine. The meds made me so far out that I didn’t even realize that almost all the food I was buying was crap. When I reaced about 200 pounds I decided something had to be done and got my act together. I started eating healthier and smaller portions. It’s been a rocky road and my dicipline has varied, but I have never gotten back to the point where most of the stuff I buy is crap.

i dont have diabetes despite gaining 170 lbs over the ears and eating very unhealthy food frequently

I discontinued olanzapine before I had the chance to develop diabetes.

That’s a long time. Sounds like Olanzapine works pretty good.

I had a bad experience with the drug but don’t want to share because everyone’s experiences and reactions with drugs is very different.

I’m on 20mg/day

No diabetes, but I did put on about 30lbs. Working on shedding that.

Me. I’ve been taking Zyprexa for years.

I’ve been taking the Zyprexa zydis form and have been for over 5 years this time roughly. No diabetes and I try to watch what I eat although I don’t eat that healthily. I have actually lost weight. On seroquel I got up to nearly 300 lbs. Zyprexa zydis helped me lose most of that weight without trying hard. I’m very thankful for Zyprexa zydis. It’s a wonderful and effective medication. I hope it helps you.

I’m still on zyprexa after near enough two decades. I was on the zydis wafer for years but recently went back to pills as I came down in dose and it wasn’t available in 7.5mgs over here. The wafer dissoves in your mouth and hits your blood before your stomach so hopefully helps in keeping off weight…

And I’ve lost a lot on zyprexa. I gained most of my weight on risperdal and zyprexa gives me a much better brain for motivation for sure.

My first medicine that I tried. You could try taking metformin or changing to another active antipsychotic like risperidone.

I gained 50 pounds after starting olanzipine. Started taking metformin and it came down to only 25lb overweight. No diabetes here so far.

No diabetes for me been on it long time.

I was on 40mg for almost 17 years. Gained 80lbs and developed diabetes.

So did you manage to lose weight while you were still on the olanzapine?

Yes. I went from 98kgs to about 82kgs at the most. But right now I’m back up at about 94kgs where I have been holding for many years now. Ideally I would like to go down to at least 85kg. For me the issue has been physical health because of insomnia. I have seldom been in shape to excersise. Sleep has improved the last month or so and I have been excersising more. I hope this continues.
