Is it certain you will get diabetes on olanzapine?

Im currently 10st 4 and im worried about developing diabetes does other antipsychotics cause this too ?

Nothing is ever certain, but if you have a family history of diabetes and also have an elevated A1c then I’d speak to your doctor— Zyprexa is no joke with diabetes.

I have a family history of diabetes both my grandfathers had it but im a daughter so im not sure

Do all antipsychotics cause this though im thinking about maybe transitioning to another one.

Not a doctor, but typically a good pdoc/prescriber will order semi-regular bloodwork, as many antipsychotics have the propensity to raise blood glucose levels (among other things).

Just to be on the safe side, I would ask your doc for a full blood panel just to have the information available if you’re concerned and also comfortable doing that.

I’m on olanzapine and was pre diabetic, but I scaled back my sugar consumption and went back to normal levels. Recently had my blood checked again and am still normal. I only take 5mg olanzapine daily though.

How long have you been on 5mg for?

About two years. I was on 7.5 for 2 years before that, 10 a year before that, and 20 for a short time before that. The section during which I was pre-diabetic was back when I was on 7.5 I think.
