Will abilify work if I insist?

I will have hope but before that I will have to put up with the side effects and negative symptoms of the medicines, I think the people on this forum are right I must put up with the side effects better than hearing voices, anything but that.

Ive kept an eye on future treatments for a long time. We had ulotolorant which failed and karxt which is for positives. They all fail and have for 30 years. I was hopeful thaf neuroplasticity could help people but researching it seems thats not the case.

I wouldn’t go from 10 mg of Abilify to 40 mg in a day. Move up slowly over a few months, with the guidance of your doctor. I read that 30 mg a day was the max recommended dose, according to my last psychiatrist, but some doctors have prescribed 40 mg a day if symptoms are very persistent. The most I’ve ever been on is 25 mg (in the summer of 2022), and this turned me into a zombie. I was far less motivated to do anything, so I’m on 20 mg now. My new doctor says that Invega makes a person less drowsy than pills. I’m considering going with injections. Still not sure though…

The highest dose of Abilify is 30mg.

Please don’t mess with doses without your doctor’s help. That’s just stupid.

I took it to calm down, it was the first and last time, my appointment is tomorrow, I’m very anxious and happy when my appointment arrives, I don’t want to hear those voices anymore. I will ask my doctor for risperidone.

Yeah , I don’t go up that quickly…
Good to hear you won’t do that again

You must increase gradually
Anyway, your doctor will know best

That’s great mixer that you are going to your doctor tomorrow 40 mg Abilify isn’t that much.
Just be open to your doctor and tell him how you feel and experience the world.
Abilify is said to be one of the milder antipsychotics side effect wise.
All meds have their side effect but my two antipsychotics are really strong and therefore comes with more severe side effects than Abilify.

I’m glad that you now are going for getting well on antipsychotics. Why live a life with severe psychosis when the antipsychotics can take care of that.

Could you give me tips on how to deal with the side effects? I’m going to ask my doctor for risperidone and from what I remember it took away my voices but it had several side effects. How to endure sleep? This is the side effect I like least, that is weight gain.

I think that you might need some anticholinergic pills like lysantin or akineton. They have got some other brand names in countries outside of EU I personally take 1 akinton morning and evening from the stiffness from my Clopixol depot. I’ve had anticolinergic pills for the last 30 years with no harm done.
You might need laxatives because most people get a little bit constipated from antipsychotics. This could be Mirilax or milk of magnesia.
If you really respond to Risperidone the effect will get massive against psychosis.

I put up with the weight gain and honestly the weight gain with risperidone is much less than olanzapine or clozapine and quetiapine. I lost 48kg on 6mg risperidone, you have to force yourself to eat healthier and smaller amounts

Its hopeful that things are still being done but even if successful it will be at least 5 year’s before it gets to the uk.
