I’ve been posting a lot on the personal effects of Abilify.
Instead of spamming the forum with a million Abilify posts, I thought I’d make a thread on all matters related to this popular antipsychotic, Abilify.
People’s experiences with this drug, negative and positive and various info and tidbits all welcome.
I know I’ve said it in all your threads however abilify was a miracle for awhile it really was no need for antidepressants no anxiety meds nothing but then I got older and it lost it’s magic
It’s been about 15 days on 2mg and this drug is still activating.
I’ve been doing a lot more for myself and in the house without feeling manic anymore.
But yeah it sometimes feels as if I’ve consumed 10 cups of strong coffe!
When I first got on it I had some insomnia. That’s about it. It kept me stable for many years.
The only other symptoms that I may have attributed to it is anhedonia and avolition. I cant say for sure it was all med related though, as you know some negs can be attributable to sz itself…
I think most APs can contribute to secondary negs so I dont place particular blame with this drug in particular.
So anyway, I guess my conclusion is that the only real side effect specific to the AP that I noticed was initial insomnia that passed eventually. It worked well for me for years as far as psychosis goes.
Edit: It is only when I started messing with below minimum doses that it failed me.
i think abilify has worked better on my paranoia than haldol…i am also sleeping less, 7hrs vs 12hrs. i still have paranoia because im taking it alone and its a low dose, but less than when i was taking haldol alone, and when i mixed abilify with haldol it was great.
only 5mg, which i know isnt high enough, it takes the edge off tho and works as well as haldol 6mg did. combined they felt like abilify 10mg. and i felt pretty good. im weaning off tho cause i dont wanna go to a doctor again. but i may end up caving to the torture and going to one anyway.
15mg no other meds absolutely a miracle for about 3 years then it sorta caused me to have facial tics and I quit cold turkey ended up in the hospital and it took a long time for me to get put on haldol which was another miracle for me
