I took 4 (1 - 10 mg) abilify tablets (On my own) just to test and it is making me drowsy, should I increase the dose with my doctor Will it start to work? because my doctor said that if it’s making you sleepy it’s because it’s taking effect. What is the highest dose of abilify? I don’t have many side effects with it.
Don’t do it on your own, talk to your dr. Increasing the dose will make negative symptoms worse and more tired and sleepy
I’m a little drowsy, but it’s not as sedating as other stronger antipsychotics.
My experience with meds is that meds that block less dopamine are better for negative symptoms but they are also less effective for psychosis. I was on Abilify and it was very weak compared to Risperidone
So did the meds that dont block dopamine work for your negative symptoms?
Nothing works for primary negative symptoms but the more a med blocks dopamine the more likely the negative symptoms will worsen
Also its dopamine blockade that treats psychosis
15 days ago I was thinking about switching to risperidone, it’s good, it took away my voices a lot when I was at school, I think I’ll go back to it, do you know what the highest dose is?
16mg, I think someone here is on 16mg. I am on 6mg risperidone and it takes away all my positive symptoms. Talk to your Dr. If you can get away with a higher Abilify dose let say 30mg it would be better for negative symptoms. According to online calculator 6mg risperidone is equivalent to 46mg Abilify
So there is literally nothing we can do for negatives and every person with sz has never treated there negatives? Thats so depressing that were screwed for life
This is sad because the negative symptoms are horrible.
I’m going to ask my doctor, in terms of sleep and sexual desire, does it make it worse? sleep I remember it made me a little drowsy.
Yes there are no FDA approved meds for negative symptoms for now but there some in development. Newer APs are supposed to be effective without worsening negative symptoms like KarXT, it should come out in 2024. Don’t expect it to treat them 100% though as they will only treat secondary negative symptoms caused by the meds. The primary negative symptoms are harder to treat as they are caused by sz and not the meds though I think some meds are in development for those as well
It depends on the individual, I sleep 9h every night and sometimes nap 30min during the day. My sex drive is normal although it was very high on Abilify. Risperidone can lower sex drive
When you say harder to treat do you mean they are treatable or are they not treatable at all. Can someone retrain there brain to get better at things like alogia? I havent come across a single post on the Internet that someone has successfully improved there negs, only got worse. Its destroying me to think im stuck this way forever and all meds thar have been in the pipeline have failed. It makes me think its damage to the brain and there will never be a treatment. This illness is unbearable and hopeless to live me. Hope kept me going but there is nothing. So depressing
The only thing ive seen is sarcosine which is mild at best
My Dr prescribed me Wellbutrin for negative symptoms but it made me hear voices so I stopped it. Some have success with stimulants like Adderall but they can make positive symptoms worse.
There is hope for the hopeless jay. Niavana has told that the first treatments for negative symptoms ever are on their way.
I like to be positive and yes there are meds in development for negative symptoms
We must all stay optimistic. The worst thing that could happen were that we all lost hope for a better tomorrow.
