Why there is still no breakthrough in schizophrenia?

This disease has been around for over 70 years since the early 1950s it is not possible for people to continue to suffer from this damn disease from a disease that no one put a stripe on we live in 2021 it is no longer possible for people to continue to suffer from serious diseases nowadays humans need to invent something more effective than drugs . I suffer from mild schizophrenia but I am taking a drug that is very difficult for me called paliperdone I could not tolerate it from the first moment I started it makes me feel and pain constantly bad countless awakenings in sleep I take it for over 3 years I continue to take it because you did a DNA test and it was found Best suited to me I have been searching the internet for two years now if the drug companies on the FDA website have created desperate new drugs and not come out one good new drug that will make me finally great and beat this horrible disease is my dream.

Welcome to the forum @Davido .

I guess there’s a lot of diseases for which there’s no cure and schizophrenia is unfortunately one of those.

I wish they had a clue what causes it though. That way it could maybe be prevented in the future.

Those DNA tests are worthless in my opinion.

If your med isn’t suiting you don’t be afraid to have a discussion with your doctor about trying something else.

This disease has been around a lot longer than 70 years. Just our meds 70 years. I agree our treatment has hardly made any progress in those 70 years. They started off with “typical antipsychotics”. Now we have “atypical antipsychotics”. Therapy, and almost nothing else besides sarcosine, and a hypothesis of we can possibly be taking $100 worth of cbd each day to help our symptoms . Woopty doo.

I have been trying to work with the doctor to decipher for over 3 years which drug will make me feel best I feel very desperate you have been before with Clopixol I felt very good with her but she would make me very restless and aggressive and sleep was good and I suffered from akathisia and with Paliperidone I am more relaxed and have no symptoms like these side effects but completely different I am afraid that if I replace this drug I will suffer from side effects similar to Clopixol.

Everyone is different and the brain is the most complicated things I know of. Everyone reacts differently to the various medications available, I’ve read about people that tried drugs with good results, but that didn’t work for me or had side effects. You just gotta keep trying different meds. I been on numerous meds. Anti-anxiety, Anti-depressants and anti-psychotics. Right now Latuda is working wonders for me, but I’ve read about others who can’t tolerate it. In large part it is trial and error, or guess and check.

Edit: You can read everything on the Internet about the various medications and peoples experiences with them but the only way you will know if it works for you is to try it.

I know what causes this disease but it is still not so clear to me I once had a dream that explains exactly what it is a kind of viruses that the immune system body attack the brain belonging to this disease I even saw exactly how they looked this dream burned in my mind forever this dream seems like it took from a movie the 50s or 60s on color with the previous drug my head was much clearer in thinking and the dreams were clearer

I agree with @Headspark .

Meds are all personal trial and error.

We’re no longer being lobotomized or subjected to insulin shock therapy. Most of us live in our communities with supports. Some of us are successful enough to support families and provide supports for others. Maybe there’s no cure yet, but – like with diabetes – the opportunities for managing the disease are better for us than at any time in history.

It’s a good time to be alive.

Why did you stop taking clopixol?

She stopped influencing me like she used to. And would make me very aggressive

Uh, sure. You’ve noticed we don’t all have polio now? Know any families that have had polio lately? No? Thank big pharma.

Can’t decide if that’s delusional, stupid, or both. This is completely whack. Just no.

Get a med adjustment and stop posting rubbish.

When sz affects more of the population or a bunch of rich/famous people, the treatment will advance, but like others have said it’s better now than it’s ever been,we take meds, some seek therapy or exercise and healthy eating habits as well and many of us converse here on a forum instead of feeling all alone. Also mental health in general is becoming less stigmatized in certain parts of the world and being taken seriously.

You’re right this happening just recently and it’s a good thing

@lofifunk I think you’re right at least to some degree. Schizophrenia only affects 1% of the population, it’s not worth the investment to drug companies.

Yeah, over the past 6 years the FDA has approved only two new drugs and even 1 of them is just an improvement of a older drug

We need an NFL quarterback, or a popular singer to develop schizophrenia to draw attention to the illness. A well-known, and respected public figure who could be a spokesperson

I’m sure the drug companies would be scrambling over each other, to be famous for curing someone’s illness of that stature

And then there will be a big movie, a tv series on Netflix, and people posting #schizopride on Facebook lol, but in all seriousness I hope for more research into this illness.

Lmao!! The #schizpride was classic

It is a fascinating illness, for sure. I would think there would be greater development in this area, even if out of curiosity. They have come a long way though , I have to admit

They should be covering CBD financially. Maybe they don’t want people cured.
