Kids around that age are the ones using the profanity. I’m not sure how old you are but the older guy get the more offended I am by words like ■■■■, and ■■■■ like that.

That was my point. Kids at that age don’t mind profanity as long as it isn’t slurs.
I just wish there was done more to protect them from sexual content.
Maybe have an 18+ subforum?

the way the profanity filter works on the software, there is no way to make it optional. It’s either on or off. More people wanted it on than off when the forum was converted. Probably because of how bad the trolling was on the old forum.
But we’ve got other measures to prevent that now, like email verification and probation periods for new members

established members still sometimes unleash a slew of profanity in the form of insults and slurs. Usually during episodes that they are later embarrassed to have. I personally don’t think all the words in the profanity filter need to be censored, but that decision is above my paygrade.
In these times of covid, economic downturn, people not having enough to eat, and so forth, I really don’t see the forum’s profanity filter as being a serious issue.

That’s not fair. There’ll always be someone who has it worse.
I’m not saying a profanity filter ruins my life. But it’s an annoyance and a hindrance and I want to question why it’s there and why it’s not optional.

Feel free to contact the forum software vendor to inquire why the profanity filter is not optional.
I’m not sure how not cursing is a hindrance. Surely we have better vocabularies than that.

From years using the old site to this I am a fan. It just has the propensity to devolve rather quickly and it just helps keep things civilized. I don’t think that is a bad thing!

Don’t work around the filter just to cuss. You could have said that without the curse. To be honest it’s ridiculous. It’s a site rule put in place by the owner. Unless he wanted to change it. We mods can’t change the core rules.
