Why is life expectancy much lower for schizophrenics than normal people?

I’ve always wondered about this, does anyone have theory why?

Also if you live a healthy life is there ways you can beat this idea?

Here’s the leading causes of death for schizophrenics

  • Age 15-24: Suicide
  • Age 25-44: Accidents
  • Age 45-64: Heart disease
  • Age 65-74: Heart disease
  • Age >75: Alzheimer disease and related dementia

So to avoid heart disease give up cigarettes for a start.

Schizophrenics generally live sedentary lifestyles, eat poorly, smoke cigarettes, have a greater chance of abusing alcohol or drugs don’t get enough exercise. and are overweight. It makes us more susceptible to getting heart disease or other serious health conditions. All (or some) of these can be changed. High stress and depression can weaken your immune system also making you more vulnerable to diseases.

80% - 90% of schizophrenics are smokers.

10% of schizophrenics kill themselves.

Poor exercise habits and poor diet lead to heart disease.

Get a physical with blood work every year. Exercise and eat right to avoid an early death.
