my mom has been looking for a new psychiatrist for the longest time because one stopped taking our insurance and we couldnt find any so i ended up going back to the old one and they somehow accepted our insurance again which is weird but i still want a new one i dont know the one i have is okay i guess but i feel like he doesnt listen to anything i say and i feel a new one could help me more and actually give me an official diagnosis so i can know what i have exactly i feel like with all the research i have done i can almost diagnose myself but i am no professional so i’ll leave it to them
You’re pretty young still, right? Very few doctors would be willing to give you a schizophrenia label at your age. They typically wait until after you turn 18. But if you want a new psychiatrist, you should be able to request your current one to transfer you to another doctor.
Psychiatry is one of the lowest paying fields for medical doctors, so there are not enough psychiatrists to meet demand. Also, mental health care is singled out by insurance companies by requiring ‘prior authorization’ (no other field of medicine has such a requirement), so that puts an undue burden on psychiatrists to get paid.
This needs to change.
don’t psychiatrist make quite a bit of money I’m actually thinking about becoming one possibly if I change my mind on mechanical engineering
You’ll probably make more money as a mechanical engineer, plus it’s less schooling. And mechanical engineers get to do the neatest things! Plus, you will fit in with a crowd of mechanical engineers as someone with MI. Many of them have some form of autism.
I love engineers. I used to hang out with them all in school because they knew how to have fun. No drinking or drugs, but they could reprogram the elevator to always open on a random floor.
Psychiatry is near the bottom of the pay scale for medical doctors with an annual salary of $226,000:

!!! the highest paying is 443,000 I never knew anyone could make that much the only thing I know about salaries is this one list I saw of highest paying jobs and the highest one was 187k I cant believe people are out there making that much 226k is still a lot to me considering its higher than what I thought was the highest paying job I think I am going to try to go with mechanical engineering because I like what @Ninjastar said
And if you’re a mechanical engineer, you can work for Spacex building commercial rockets and satellites! How cool is that? My brother’s ex girlfriend is some big time executive at spacex now, and she only graduated five years ago. You can advance very quickly in that field if you want.
how dangerous do you think mechanical engineering would be that’s the main thing I am worried about the designing part seems like it should be fun just hard af but maybe it wont be hard if you know what you are doing already
My nephew passed the Series 7 test last year, and now he’s a stock broker working for Morgan Stanley.
If you really want to make a lot of money…
Also, he’s 24 years old and will probably make about $500,000 this year.
I would probably go crazy making that much money I wouldn’t know what to spend it on of course I could save is but life is short and i compulsively buy everything i can afford whenever i get money
It’s a pretty safe field. For the most part, you’re just programming robots to do all the dangerous or complicated parts for you.
My niece is in digital marketing (I don’t know what that pays).
If you like computers (no coding involved), are creative, this might be the job for you. You get to work at home, also.
yes, that’s what i do at least
mechanical engineering to psychiatry. that’s interesting
I struggled finding a psychiatrist in this city too. But I needed one who takes Medicaid. There are not many of them and they’re usually booked up. Finally found one and he’s ok I suppose. Not enough mental healthcare resources for low-income people
@sigarino it’s typically more difficult to get into an engineering undergraduate program so I would recommend you try the mechanical engineering route. If you either can’t get in a program or if you get in and find you don’t enjoy it, it’s always easier to go from engineering to something else than the other way around. Good luck!
I completely agree with you that mechanical engineers are likely to have autism. Alot of people in science and engineering have aspergers syndrome. I happen to have it and got a bachelor’s in microbiology.
