Why haven’t more people tried caplyta?

It is the first med that supposedly treats negative symptoms and I feel like it’s talked about very little.

I’m trying to get my doctor to prescribe me it, but he’s never heard of it or worked with it before I told him. So I need to wait until the next appointment.

Is anyone on this drug? What are your experiences?

My pdoc would like me to take it, but it’s extremely expensive.

In the USA, health insurance usually won’t cover newer meds, especially ones as new as Caplyta.

However, I have tried it. It didn’t help my symptoms at all. But everybody’s experience will be different. So, it may be a good med for you. You’ll never know until you try.

I don’t believe it is approved in Canada.

They put Caplyta in my med. tray without me knowing it. I don’t notice much of an effect from it. I didn’t know what it was for until recently. I guess I’ll keep taking it.

I hope to use the manufacturers coupon online to reduce the cost, we’ll see if it’s cheap enough when the time comes. I’m sorry it didn’t work for you, how long were you on it?

I hope it helps you. I wasn’t on it for very long. I don’t remember exactly how long, though.

In the USA, insurance may require that the doctor documents that the patient has failed 2 or more antipsychotics previously. New meds have to be added to the drug benefit formulary. The online reviews are only positive in less than half the patients.
“Caplyta has an average rating of 4.8 out of 10 from a total of 70 ratings on Drugs.com. 35% of reviewers reported a positive experience, while 51% reported a negative experience.”
The GoodRX price without insurance starts about $1450 a month or more.

Yeah so i have been wating to try caplyta as well. My personal experience is that my negative and cognitive problems are caused by the antipsychotics. However i understand that caplyta is a rather weak antagonist so i thought that would mean it would be a better antipsychotic medication.

@shutterbug are you sure its notnapproved in canada? I googled caplyta canada b4 and it sounds like its approved. Im actually planning to switch to caplyta. I mentioned it to my doctor in the last appointment and she said she wants to reaearch it more first. So hopefully on my appointment on october 27th she lets me switch to it.

Honestly, no. I’ve been taken off APs, so researching them isn’t high on my list of priorities right now, anyhow. I just came back in from photographing a sunset with my drone - much better use of my time.

@shutterbug

Oh so your just not on any antipsychotic now? Yeah i do that sometimes, i sleep less off them

That’s the story - this is with medical oversight. My advice is to stop nitpicking over the various meds and get going on CBT. Better use of your time than opening a new zombie thread every day when the moderators have been repeatedly telling you not to.

I have no idea what the rationale here is in the UK, but it seems like they treat the USA as lab rats with these new meds and wait years to make sure no one falls off their perches before approving it

Probably money as well

Our healthcare system agrees rates for all drugs, and I guess a lot of manufacturers eventually cave

We have bargaining power of 65 million people in one negotiation

Think in the US it’s more fragmented? If you got the money you get the newest shiny drugs!

I prefer not to be on really new drugs myself. I prefer to wait a few years for the “perch falling” to occur. Except under extraordinary circumstances, like Covid. I guess new drugs are an option here, so I guess it doesn’t hurt, but it’s not really for me.

I think our regulator is major anal retentive! TBH…

Even though Vraylar has been going a while, it’s a red drug here, so I can literally only get it off a pdoc

Usually the family doctor prescribes and it’s easy to do it online, but they’re not allowed to until there is more evidence of no longer term affects!

Makes me a bit nervous, but we don’t have much else left to try

This. This cured me of wanting to be first in line to try the newest drugs. I leave that for people with poor cognition and poorer judgement now.

Yeah i can kind of understand not wanting to try new drugs, but the current antipsychotics are kind of ■■■■. Dumb me down, make me lazy, wmotionally numb, id rather just try a new drug cause i cant imagine it being worse to whats out in the market.

Just for record im currently off meds, im waiting for psychosis to get back on. Been off for like 5 months now.

Lol yeah idk how i open up zombie threads, like on the bottom there just threads that are recommended, i dont look at the date and i just post. Looking back i think one zombie thread i opened was 7 years old lol.

If you look at the reviews, there’s not many of them, and the ones that are good are around 9/10 or 10/10.

The drug is supposed to help social and cognitive functioning. I’m personally really excited to try it, idk if people have given it enough of a chance yet

I didn’t like it. It made me feel yucky inside my head, and we moved to Latuda which has been my wonder drug.
