Why do people feel more special than anyone else

Well I do anyways.

Maybe when I am not depressed this grandiosity(?) feeling will go away?
Or is it just normal, part of human nature
Thanks

You’re the center of your universe. It’s only natural to feel that way.

It’s easier to function if you modulate those feelings down so you can level with people easier, without dreaming for “something better” all the time.

Everyone think they’re special. Its human instinct and a survival thing.

How des one modulate those feelings down?

I like the Sikh approach, regarding people as vessels for God’s influence, so everyone is in sense a form of Him. Christians think similarly.

This attitude makes me feel less egotistic. There are still differences between people but I feel I shouldn’t judge too hard because that fundamental essence is within everyone.

I still feel more important. The only time I didn’t was when I thought I was going to die. And all people suddenly looked so important.

I know by logic that I am not more important but I still feel more important. Dunno if its a part of depression. Like @aziz said a survival thing?

OK important is the wrong word maybe, idk, maybe the word is special idk. Just something

What is that? I don’t understand

It’s fine to feel more important sometimes, since you just can’t authentically lower your ego below other people 24/7. I can only do it for a while, like regarding people as potential teachers, but sometimes it feels like I’ve learned all I can from that particular person about the particular topic, then I have to gently end the interaction.

Sikhs regard God as “The Great Professor”. He is like the great guide of all, teaching us relevant lessons every step of the way. You don’t have to learn everything, just what is important to you.

It can also be a defense after being kicked around by others.

That was to do with percentiles and IQ . 65% people believing they are above average would mean those at the 35th percentile with IQs of 94 were seeing themselves as above average . Average range is 85-115.

That’s a really good idea.
Like if you were kicked around then your body compensates by telling you you are very special.

Yes, that is exactly what I meant.

you know, I think that is the reason why I feel special, but I don’t get why it goes into overdrive. maybe the body sees everyone as a potential threat so makes me feel more special

ok another topic to discuss in talk therapy

Maybe it’s because we all had mothers.

I feel it is necessary and important to feel you are special. Otherwise we think we are nothing and just part of this huge world of people. That threatens me. The reason I am special, I suppose, has to do with my beliefs in religion.

I don’t think I do feel special, I have major problems with confidence.
