We aren’t. It just takes so long to get from us to the next inhabited planet that no living thing could survive the journey.
Like, it’s a mathematical certainty, but you try crossing a million light years before dying of old age or running out of fuel.

What about travel using magnetism ? That way you are at the destination before igniting the start button.

LoL I was actually surprised nobody brought up cryostasis. That’s a popular one in sci fi, a workaround to long flight times.
