Why antidepressants stopped working?

I was severely depressed on Invega so I was taking escitalopram and it helped a lot. Now since my last hospitalozation my main med was changed to haloperidol and escitalopram doesnt work well, tried cymbalta and trintellix, I get all the side effects but not amy of the benefits. Im off of all antidepresdants and I feel better. Any thoughts?

I call haldol “helldol” because of what it does to you. They would torture people with that stuff, it’s no joke and it will make you feel like ■■■■.

But i dont feel tortured on haloperidol, I had a torture on new antipsychotics like risperidone and quetiapine

I had torture on those pills too
I have been on seroxat for twenty years and it stopped working in the last couple years so I’m now on duloxetine which isn’t much better but it’s doing something I’d be worse if I came off it

I find haldol helpful, but it was prolixin that really turned me around. It’s another first gen typical antipsychotic.

It’s the second gen atypicals that made me suffer. The side effects were astronomical.

I was on stelazine for ten years and did really well I could work and socialize
They wront put me back on stelazine now
I wasn’t suffering as much on stelazine but I wasn’t “all there”

What side effects on atypicals you were having? Which typical is better than haloperidol in your opinion?

i do ok on new meds for a year or two then it stops and i need new meds

dont know why my body starts to reject meds but because of that i have to keep switching meds

i have been on almost every med there is

Which med is better than haloperidol to try from in your experience? Ive tried quetiapine and risperidone, i think typicals are much better

i take a very high dose of Clozaril
its the only thing that really takes the edge off but does not take away symptoms
i also take 2 other aps and two ads and propranolol for side effects which seems to help with fidgeting restless legs and ocd

They wront let me take high dose because risk of fits

what kind of fits like twitching or epilepsy
@shellys12

Epilepsy I think

@shellys12
i take Depakote for seizures

i forget what they call my seizures they are the ones where i stare off into space and i dont come out of it if pinched or shook

i come out of it usually in a couple minutes

I think efficacy is what makes certain antipsychotics better than others, and that varies from person to person. Some typicals have more affinity to dopamine, especially when compared to atypicals.

Personally, prolixin is stronger than haldol. There are a few more but I’m forgetting their names. Almost all typicals have higher affinity than atypicals.

Side effects on atypicals are like weight gain, metabolic syndrome, EPS and Tardive Dyskinesia (rare but still possible on atypicals). Along with garden variety GI problems.

Atypicals are first line because of how tolerable they are and how easily it is to take them. Typicals are harder on the body, but work so well at managing dopamine. Less metabolic side effects, more TD and EPS.

Have you tried Abilify?

That is the only atypical AP that hasn’t caused weight gain or any side effects. Miracle drug, really.
