It’s started with my aunt saying things to me about my mum … I thought she was right so I started saying those things. But then I realised I need to look at both sides of an argument. Then my aunt started taking about YouTube talking to her and telling her three people are plotting against her in my house. That’s when I realised something’s not right ! But I keep thinking this can’t be happening to her. She doesn’t tell these things to anyone else only me … so is this happening or am I imagining it ? I told my mum and partner who think she’s not well.
She had to go to a phone shop to remove WhatsApp and YouTube because it was scaring her.
You’re fine @Ish. It’s your aunt who’s a little off.
@SkinnyMe i keep questioning it cos her symptoms are very similar to mine it’s so scary to see her like this
That should tell you it might run in the family right? She doesnt sound well to me either. Trust your instinct and help her
She’s gotten into a cult like this before apparently but that was decades ago … and she’s never been on antipsychotics. She’s in her early 60s. Can psychosis go away and come back like this ? I don’t know what to do and how to suggest she get help.
@Ish Does she live with you or other family members? Tell her to either see a doctor or move out of the house (or apartment).
She moved back to her own place two days who but was with me 10 months to look after her mum
The only way you can force her to get help @Ish is if and when she becomes a danger to either herself, or others, or both. When that happens, you go down to your local Board of Mental Health (or British or London equivalent), and file a court order of protection (or equivalent), with the judge there.
She becomes a danger to herself when you see her, (examples…) throwing lit cigarette butts in trash baskets, leaving burners alight on stoves, falling asleep in bed with cigarette in hand. Or when you audibly hear her saying she wants to kill herself or someone else. Ask her how she wants to accomplish it. If she provides a method, go to the Board of Mental Health (ASAP).
Yeah psychosis doesnt have to be indefinite. Before i was diagnosed i went 4-5 years between my first episode and my next
