Who's in a group home?

They prefer you live alone in an apartment here because it’s cheaper but I wonder, would I be better off in a group home?

I was at a place that was like a group home for like 6 months. I did not like it. I couldn’t wait to get out. They didn’t even have wifi so if you didn’t have a phone with internet you were basically screwed. I took my laptop computer with me but couldn’t even surf the internet because they had no wifi. And the place was way out in the middle of nowhere so, even though you were free to go wherever you want, there was no place in reasonable walking distance to go. It was just boring af.

Not me. I live alone in a one bedroom apartment. I’ve been on my own since the fall of 2008.

I am one of the lucky ones, I live by myself in a small house I own.

I was in a home for 3 years. Hated every moment of it.

I live in a group home with 3 other residents and I can 100% say its the best move I ever made.

Yes we have our ups and downs but I have made some good friendships here, we have a good staff team. Own large room, SKY TV (Tivo) in each room. Fast internet. Nice house in expensive commuter town. Out my £1300 monthly benefits I only have to pay £110 a month for utilities. I’m never lonely. I’m very happy here.

It depends on how you look at it. While they are locking us up because of the pandemic still they did at least help us stay well by having us vaccinated. While you have to put up with some people you can’t stand sometimes at least there’s somebody who puts up with you sometimes. While the presence of others can annoy you at least you are not alone. And while the food may need improvement at least you are fed. I would complain but I can’t really complain.

A house on my street is a group home. I use to be friends with some of the kids there when I was younger. They seemed neutral about it. I never heard them say anything bad about it, but they didn’t say anything good about it either. But we were just kids playing, we didn’t really talk about our lives that much, but when I was hanging out with them they seemed okay with it, it was a place to live and better than being on the street.

Personally I would rather live in my own apartment by myself. I’ve heard about stuff getting stolen in group homes, you never know who you will live with or what they will be like.

I wish I had more opportunities to meet other people but the group home here for people that have psychosis is very short term

When I got diagnosed they tried to put me in a flat on my own but that was short term as well
