30 year old Mike Tyson or 30 year old Muhammad Ali?
Ali if Tyson can keep his teeth out of it
Haha ok Rocky marciano or Ali both 30 years old
Ali wins

As a fan of boxing Ali wins this fairly easy. Anytime Tyson fought decent opposition he was stopped. Tyson couldn’t bully Ali. In their prime it would make a decent fight for the first 3-5 rounds then Ali would just dominate the fight. Even Tyson has said Ali would destroy him and holds him in the utmost esteem. Ali is just too good.
However, Tyson in his prime and never having lost Cus D’Amoto his mentor/adopted father/and trainer and never gone to prison he might stand a better chance. The problem is we never saw Tyson fight a quality opponent at his best due to him going to prison. He was suppose to fight Holyfield but they were building up that fight then he went to prison for rape and then we saw what happen in that fight.
The only boxing matches I ever watched were in the Rocky movies. Idk anything about boxing except I heard that Ali was really good at it.
I’ve seen Ali in an interview and he came across as arrogant and not too intelligent.
Ali wouldnt try to rope a dope Tyson. Tysons fists are deadly. Ali was a great tactician though.
I give it to Ali in a very close match.
Ali vs Marciano is another good match. Marciano had better defense than everyone gave him credit for, but I dont think itd be enough to stop Ali’s offense.
Just saw it was 30 year old vs 30 year old, that changes things. Ali would have destroyed 30 year old Tyson. Tyson peaked early.
I would have to politely disagree with some of your points.
Tyson fought some good fighters and only lost a few matches in his career. Buster Douglas was a boxing fluke when he was the first person to knockout Tyson and win the title from him.
I was going to get into a big detailed answer but I don’t feel like it but I will say that Tyson didn’t duck anybody when he was champ. His opponents were the best contenders at the time.
Every promising fighter fights bums when they start their professional career including Ali.
In his early fights when he mowed down every opponent in one or two rounds you have to consider that it was a young inexperienced Mike Tyson usually fighting more seasoned older fighters. Lots of fighters who show great promise have their first bouts handpicked by their manager for various reasons. They pick opponents who Tyson could use to strengthen certain skills i.e. practice his uppercut, or his jab or his stamina or pick someone who Tyson could “experiment” on to try out new techniques in his game. Tyson won all those early victories but I make the point that his opponents had some decent records and were decent opposition.
Easy??? Tyson would be easy? Was Foreman easy?
I think Tyson was saying Ali would destroy him exactly for what you said. I think when Tyson said that he was running on emotion and respect but I kind of doubt the reality of that statement or even doubt he believed it himself… In his career Tyson was pretty much afraid of no one and didn’t mind saying it.
I actually think Ali was the best boxer of all time; he was not the greatest fighter of all time but he was the best boxer.
And to get back to the point that Tyson was stopped anytime he fought decent opposition. Spinks was one of the best around at the time. He lost in 92 seconds. Holmes was over the hill but still had power and stamina and experience. At the time Tyson fought Berbick for the title, Berbick had been in the ring with many good fighters. And so had most of the fighters that Tyson defended his title against. And if you look at Ali’s career his defenses weren’t all against Joe Frazier or George Foreman or Norton caliber fighters, he fought many people who weren’t good enough to go into boxing history. I’m not taking anything away from Ali, in his time he was the most recognized person on the planet. A brave, great, talented principled man, a leader in the civil rights movement, a devout religious man, a consummate entertainer too. But as a fan of both Ali and Tyson I feel I had to make these points.
Ali. Amazing boxer. Never seen a heavyweight who tactically took a pounding to win in the 12th round. Crazy stuff!
I feel like Ali would fight Tyson like he did Frazier but Frazier has much more power and is the better boxer. Ali would dance around Tyson as he came forward. Tyson has problems against top opposition like I said earlier such as Holyfield and Lennox Lewis who admittedly are top 5 HWs of all time but Ali is first.
I feel Ali’s jabs and rights are too much for Tyson and he takes him into deep waters possible
KO in 8-9th round. If this goes the distance see Tyson winning 4 rounds with Ali possibly stealing some of those. I was thinking this fight as a 15 rounder but if it’s 12 like championship fights are now the fight is closer then I said earlier at least on the score boards. Also feel Ali gets the better of Tyson mentally. Doubt Tyson puts fear into Ali and Ali’s mind games in and out the ring get the better of the mentally weak Tyson. As Teddy Atlas said on the Joe Rogan podcast he sees Tyson as 0-4 as anytime he had to overcome a challenge he failed. Ali wouldn’t be afraid of Tyson’s power either as he took on Prime Frazier and Foreman (Foreman being probably the hardest hitter of all time). Also Tyson was said to be ducking aged Foreman during his prime.
Tyson’s best chance is obviously the early rounds but I feel Ali’s iron jaw can take Tyson’s heat. Also Ali was never hurt to the body. Ali has underrated power as his fight with a Prime foreman was the only time Foreman was ever TKOd.
Obviously Tyson has a punchers chance but if that fails in the early rounds like I stated before it’s all Ali.
I don’t know. Me?
Your wrong and I’m wrong on many points. Ali *might" have beat Tyson but I don’t think you’re giving Tyson enough credit. I don’t know why a Forman-Tyson fight never happened, I doubt it was out of fear for either fighter. To steal a joke I heard on some talk show, both fighters were probably both more afraid of Don King than they were of each other. The guy was quite a shady, manipulative, character without a conscience and was as good at promoting himself as he was for promoting boxing matches.
When Tyson fought Holyfield and Lewis he was past the 30 that we’re originally talking about. And like *I" said earlier, it is common sense that of course Tyson had trouble with top opposition. Because they were good fighters and good fighters give their opponents trouble and it was an aging Tyson who lost to both, I see no shame in losing to top fighters at Tyson’s age. An aging Muhammad Ali lost to Holmes. An aging Holmes lost to Tyson. An aging Joe Lewis lost to Rocky Marciano etc. Ali is actually my favorite fighter and he beat the best, I think they called the era of Ali, Frazier, Norton and Foreman the “Golden Age Of Boxing”. All those guys were all time greats and fought each other; sometimes more than once. But I still don’t think you give Tyson enough credit.
I’m just rambling now because I just got off work. Now I’m just picking apart each point; but I don’t see how Tyson is mentally weak. And Ali himself admitted that having power was not his strong point. And just for the record, Ali’s body was amazingly tough and hardened but out of the three or four times that he got knocked down in his entire career, one was a body shot by the journeyman fighter Chuck Wepner in a 15 round match. And Ali was only human, he was probably pissing blood after some of his matches from being hit in the kidneys too much just like anyone else. I don’t know who would have won but it would have been a helluva fight.
Yeah definitely I’m prob not giving Tyson enough credit like you said. A prime Tyson is def a beast. I think if he had the likes of Cus, Rooney, and even Teddy Atlas in his corner his whole career he would have been a lot more outstanding career. But like you said Don King ruined him. It also good to point out that Cus trained Tyson’s peek a boo style to beat an Ali so there’s that. I honestly think the fight is close to 50/50 bet wise but the way I play it in my head I have Ali just dancing around Tyson and frustrating him with the jab. But that’s the thing with boxing you never know how a fight will play out until it happens assuming both boxers are skilled.
This fight could prob go either way I just favor Ali. Like I said if Ali can weather the storm I favour Ali and IMO I think he could take it the distance.
Ali is def my one of my favs. I haven’t watched much but Sugar Ray Robinson is also a beast and most historians call him the perfect fighter and rank him ahead of Ali in the p4p all time rankings. I still put Ali as The best ever and Goat though.
I haven’t watched as many 70s and 90s fights as I like as am limited to YouTube but have been buying bootleg dvds from online vendors lately and enjoying a lot of classic fights.
The current heavyweight picture is starting to look exciting with Fury, Wilder, and Joshua all undefeated and potential match ups. Also Uysk just moved to heavyweight so should be interesting. Wish boxing was marketed better as it is def fun to watch. MMA has such great marketing. I am a fan of MMA too but feel the level of skill and athletes just isn’t quite there minus a few exceptions.
Who do you think would win between Duran-Pacquiao another old time great vs modern great bout. Think that match up would be a great one as well.
Cheers.
Considering the first post says who wins at 30 years of age, I’d have to go with Muhammad Ali by a clear decision.
You couldn’t pay me enough to step in the ring against Mike Tyson. He seemed to be able to summon this anger that was just scary.
I was watching the fight live on Pay-Per-View when he bit Holyfield’s ear, the camera dropped to the mat and we were watching a shot of the floor for like thirty seconds while everything was happening.
A current heavyweight champion from England named Anthony Joshua recently said he’d rather fight Muhammad Ali than Mike Tyson of he had to choose. I can see why too. Muhammad Ali was more of a technical boxer. The majority of his knockouts come by TKO due to punches in bunches and not a 10 count. Mike Tyson was more of a puncher, he’d knock a person’s block off. Laying people out cold for the 10 count or unable to get up off the canvas. I think he hit much harder than Ali. A young Mike Tyson in his prime has a chance against any heavyweight. By 30 he had his best years behind him partly due to the fact that he was imprisoned and therefore inactive in terms of boxing. Usually a year or more of inactivity makes a fighter rusty at the championship level. Most fighters are never the same after such a long time without a fight. They may return and still be good, just not as good usually. There is a term called ring rust.
Not to go off topic but there is a fighter named Marcos Maidana who is currently training for a comeback. He’s a devastating Argentine puncher but I suspect he won’t be at the elite level when he returns. Still they say power is the last thing to go in a boxer… so he will be fun to watch at least.
Ali said Marciano was better than Joe Frazier. Ali also said that if he had a bad day and Marciano had a good day it was conceivable that Marciano could beat him. However, I would still have to put the odds in Ali’s favor. Marciano was good, but not good enough to beat Ali.
I just watched the movie Chuck on Netflix last night. It was about chuck wepner
I was talking with a couple of guys who had experience boxing, and I said I would really like to see a fight between Ali in his prime versus Mike Tyson in his prime. These guys said that Ali would have spanked Tyson. They didn’t think Tyson was all that good.
