Who here is on disability and owns a car they only use like like three times a month

Is this a waste? Should I just get rid of it and take the bus everywhere. I paid $2500 for it and just spent $1100 to get the brakes done. Stupid I know. Like I hardly ever use it, I don’t know what to do. Am I the only one that has a car but hardly ever goes anywhere.

How come you don’t use it often ?

Not on disability, but I have a car I spend a lot on but hardly ever drive. Like having it there when I need it. There is no public transit where I live.

Sounds like a waste to me. Is there a good taxi service where you live? That might be a far cheaper option than a car.

I’m on disability and used to use my car a lot. That has changed and now with my current lifestyle I’m going to sell it and just pay halves with dad and use his car.

A car is gives you some good freedom but it’s costly. I can at least use public transport so weigh up what is practical and how a car or not having one will affect you. For me. It’s an easy decision.

I’m on disability and use a car 2 or 3 times a week. My drives are usually not that far. I do not currently own, although pre sz and during my working years I did. I use my dad’s van now. He is very open to letting me use it whenever I want. I can’t think of a time he has turned me down, so even though it would be convenient to have my own, it’s not a necessity.

I have considered purchasing my own frequently in the past, but i just cant justify paying insurance on it for it to sit a good portion of the time. Also, cars are quite expensive atm, another deterrent to my purchasing one. Maybe at some point in the future I will get one though.

Taxis are too expensive here, Uber is actually much cheaper.

I share a car with my father. I paid like 40% of it back in 2011. When my negative symptoms were better I used it a lot and always paid for gas. But now I can’t work and my negative symptoms are much worse so I only use it to go to the Dr and my father pays its repairs and gas. I modified it back in 2012 and put 4 new big speakers, led bluetooth radio and 1000w subwoofer.

Yes I just can’t afford it breaking down and paying more money in repairs. I would rather be saving that money. I think next year I am going to dump it and just take the bus everywhere.

I understand about the negative symptoms. I just don’t have the motivation to go anywhere. I am home 99% of the time. So it’s kind of a waste paying for car insurance.

I have a car because I’m too afraid to walk to a bus station and too afraid of getting off the bus at the wrong place. I drive maybe one per week

I think I am a little depressed. I just dont feel like driving anywhere. Plus I am also paranoid I’ll have an accident. I don’t have any friends so I really have nowhere to go.

Nice so I don’t feel as bad now. The only thing I wish my car insurance was alot less.

I got mine lowered considerably by allowing them to track my driving for 6 months, and then they have also lowered my rates after time staying with them and not getting any points etc on my record.
