Some antipsychotics put you at increased risk of diabetes via high blood sugar and pretty much all put you at increased risk of diabetes through weight gain so I was just curious how many of us are diabetic or have prediabetes.
Thankfully, I have avoided diabetes, prediabetes, and high cholesterol. The latter I attribute to eating primarily vegan. Cholesterol did go up when I first started taking Caplyta – and I freaked out! – but it’s come back down to normal, and my LDL is good. (She didn’t tell me what my most recent triglyceride was, but I assume it was good because she didn’t say anything.)
I got diabetes in January 2018 after taking Seroquel and drinking sodas every day mostly Mountain Dews. I had been on APs since September 2015 so that may have helped cause my diabetes. My blood sugar is good now. It’s back to normal so I haven’t taken Metformin all year.
I have type 1, the autoimmune kind. My immune system randomly attacked the beta cells of my pancreas, which produce insulin, at the age of 10.
My pancreas no longer makes any insulin, so I have to either do multiple insulin shots per day or I have to infuse insulin 24/7 via an insulin pump.
I was doing 6+ shots a day, plus frequent blood sugar checks via finger prick, for the first 10 years. Then, when I was 20, I switched to an insulin pump. When I was 22, I got a continuous glucose monitor, which drastically cut down on finger pokes.
I’ve lost almost 10 kg since July just by not ordering so much food!
Yayyy I’m not overweight anymore and I didn’t had to go to the gym to lost them, just made a bit more homemade food
