At what age did you get diabetes?

Was it before or after you started taking antipsychotics? What meds do you take and do you need insulin?

It started almost straight away after taking Abilify ! I still don’t know if it’s actual diabetes or just a side effect of Abilify.

That is, if I stopped taking Abilify would my blood sugar return to normal.

In any event, I just take Metformin pills to counteract it.

I came down with diabetes in 2011 after I had been on Zyprexa five or six years. I gained a lot of weight on Zyprexa so we don’t know if it was the Zyprexa or because I weighed 350 lbs. I first took Metformin for the diabetes, but it gave me chronic diarrhea, so I switched to Glipizide. I’m not not taking any medications for diabetes as my blood sugar is nearly normal now.

I was 51 when diagnosed with diabetes. I’m on Caplyta now.

I’m 61 and just got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes four months ago. I’ve been on anti-psychotics for 40 years. My doctor says mine isn’t the most serious kind and I don’t need insulin but she put me on metformin. I get the Invega Sustenna shot once a month and take 400 mg of Seroquel at night. Also on a AD.

I got diabetes 2 1/2 years ago after 27 years of taking antipsychotics. I reversed it at least temporarily with diet. (my a1c was 6.3 at last check). However I test my sugar daily. So far I haven’t had to take insulin but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

I developed diabetes at the age of like 42 years old
I’m 58 now.

Lithium caused rapid weight gain and I was eating a lot of junk food and developed diabetes from it.

My diabetes is rather mild compared to most.

I’m on a high dose of Metformin and I recently am on Mounjaro another diabetes drug.

My latest A1C was excellent at 5.6

My last A1C was 5.7, and I’m not taking any medications for diabetes right now. I had a low blood sugar episode at my psych clinic, and the nurse had to give me some emergency glucose tablets. My nurse practitioner took me off Glipizide diabetes med after that.

I got prediabetes after being on seroquel for a while. That was back in 2017, then i got my diet together and changed meds and it went away, only to return again in 2020ish with a different AP and stress causing me to eat badly again. My A1C was 5.9 last time i checked its down to 5.7. But im still improving my diet and exercise routine
