Which is the best medication in this list to take for Schizophrenia?

Hi all,
Aside from Clozapine, what do you guys think is the best medication in long lasting form?, check out this list I got from a website:

  • [Aripiprazole] (Abilify Maintena)

  • [Aripiprazole lauroxil]

  • [Fluphenazine]

  • [Haloperidol]

  • [Olanzapine]

  • [Paliperidone]

  • [Risperidone]

I only have the option to take an injection at the moment, and the ones I’ve already taken in that list is Abilify (which I’m currently on) and Invega was another I took which made me throw up and had dry orgasm with. Risperidone made me shake alot.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!.

I think it really depends on the individual. What works for one won’t work for another.

Well, only risperidone worked for me to the best of my knowledge.

I take Invega/paliperidone. People respond differently to different medications, so there is no ‘best’. You just have to learn what works best for you through trial and error.

If you have severe symptoms, probably olanzapine.

I don’t like olanzapine. I was on it for 17 years, a very high dose, 40mg, it worked for my psychosis but I had all kinds of side effects. My physical health was perilously bad. The withdrawals were bad too, it took me 4 years to taper off it, I finally quit it a little over 4 months ago and I still have withdrawal insomnia. I’m not a fan of Olanzapine.

I am now on Lurasidone (Latuda) 60mg and it’s a wonder drug for me, much happier with it and am doing way better on it in every way (But it’s not on your list so I guess it doesn’t come in injection format, I don’t know)

Abilify didn’t work for me.

Haloperidol (haldol) gave me really bad side effects so I quit. Plus it has a higher risk of TD so I didn’t want to be on it even if it didn’t give me side effects.

I was offered injections but I refused. Pills only for me.

I didn’t like Invega. I have no idea which would be best for you but I am on Aripiprazole and it is working fine for me.

The “best” AP on that list for physical health would be Aripiprazole.

There is no best AP for mental health.

It’s all about trial and error.

For me both Risperdal and Haldol work great.

For you it may be other drugs.

The best AP is the one that works for you.

You guys are right, everyone is different, but I just wanted some opinions. For example, according to studies, Clozapine is the best AP for Schizophrenia. But I can’t get that prescribed. I guess I’ll just look at all the side effects of each medication and pick the best one, that might be the best way to go and then try it out from there.

in that list, abilify is the newest formula and supposedly has the most tolerable side effects but i would argue they are all the same.

Meds work different for everyone so it’s a matter of figuring out what is best for you.
