I am mostly interested in atypical/second generation antipsychotics.

I personally picked abilify. Although I still struggle with akathisia, I have had great results with this medicine  . Factors that influenced my decision: Prolonged stability and less extreme side effects.

Note: This poll is not meant to encourage people to switch meds IF your current medication is working well for you. I just want to get a bearing of what the majority of people have had success with. I think discussing which meds we’ve taken along with what side effects with had with any given med is generally a good thing.

4 mg respridal for far cry…!!!

i picked abilify even tho i just started it a week ago i believe it is going to work the best for me, Zyprexa worked the best it almost got rid of my symptoms completely if i raised the dose a little bit they would probably be gone but it made me gain too much weight so i couldn’t take it anymore

Risperidone worked best for me it was the only AP that actually took away pretty much all my symptoms. I couldn’t even feel energy on it. Was so weird, took adjusting to.

Unfortunately it came with some hefty side effects like hyperprolactenaemia (which is why I was taken off it), gaining 10 lbs a month, and making orgasm practically impossible. :disappointed: I miss it though it was really effective and no akathisia at all.

I picked abilify. The only side effect was akithisia when I was on a higher dose. Risperidone gave me too much brain fog.

zyprexa for me…been through risperdal and abilify but olanzapine works best for my brain!

I honestly don’t know now… I’m off everything cuz I either had bad akathisia or can’t take the metabolic side effects. I’d like to try Saphris or Rexulti maybe but don’t see my pdoc til Friday. The dumb ass pdoc in the hospital put me on Zyprexa and I refuse to take it, I have a friend got diabetes from it. I’ve been on everything else approved in the U.S. Treatment-refractory b.s.

Ah, that is unfortunate about the side effects. I, too, cannot take risperidone. I had to deal with an allergic reaction to it :frowning:

Abilify has been the best for me. The only side effect I’ve noticed from it is decreased libido. I can still function sexually, just don’t have that much desire to do so.

Zyprexa used to be my go-to AP, but now it causes me terrible akathisia at higher (effective) doses. I couldn’t sleep on it due to the akathisia.

Tried many different drugs.
The most effective so far is Risperidone.
Would be locked up without it.

I’m on atypical and typical APs. I’m on Latuda 160 and haldol Depot every two weeks

Amisulpride which has kept me stable for the last few years on and off. Also risperdal which I used to take years ago and which got me into remission.

Lowest dosage of Saphris.

I can’t say, but Aripiprazole and Lurasidone combination is good for me. I’m taking aripiprazole 30mg for nearly 15 years and it had been a hassle free drug for me with no side effects.

I am on Olanzapine now.It works well for me
