When do I harvest my mushrooms?

I have a batch of pink oyster mushrooms going.

Despite having a “guarantied grow”,

This is my only plant to make it this far.

It was 100% my fault and it was getting sun that I didn’t realize it was.

Anyway,

I’ve seen all the videos,

But some of the caps are turned up, some are not.

They still look very pink.

I just don’t know.

Anyone have any experience?

I mushroom hunt a lot. Those are ready to cook. That’s a nice flush of mushrooms.

Do you ever find Chicken of the Woods?

My husband and I hunt for it occasionally.

Never found any.

I remember @anon4362788 dropping some knowledge on that mushroom (chicken of the woods)

I’ve never found one early enough to eat it. Mostly around here we get golden chanterelles, white oyster, king oyster, boletes, lions main, charcoal burners, blue milk caps, black trumpets, morels and old man of the woods. We get so many golden chanterelles that we are all tired of eating them. Oh, and giant puff balls.

That is super cool!

What kind of climate do you live in?

I live in Northern California on the coast.

What kind should I be looking for?

Not sure on the west coast. I live in north Georgia piedmont out in the woods. I’d google for local groups that you could learn from. Remember, there are old mushroom hunters and bold mushroom hunters but there are no old bold mushroom hunters.

That’s an excellent saying as far as mushroom hunting goes.

I actually used to live in that area myself.

I grew up in Georgia.

Are you familiar with the Tallulah Falls area?

I’m about an hour and a half from there. Great trout fishing out there.

I spent a lot of summer time at Lake Rabun.

(near that area)

It’s an interesting place to live.

I didn’t enjoy it when I was there,

But now when I go back,

I appreciate it more.
