Whats your understanding of more than one AP at a time?

Some pdocs ive had say the “pros in psychiatry” don’t believe in more than one AP. Whats your understanding of it based on personal experience, studies read, and direct words from your workers?

My pdoc prescribed another for prn for breakthrough symptoms

My psychiatrist refuses to prescribe more than one AP at the same time.

It depends on the individual psychiatrist.

I’ve been on two antipsychotics at a time. At one point they were going to put me on three at once, but decided against it.

I was on invega and ability at once, I think the benefit is sometimes being able to mitigate side effects and also to address differing symptoms.

An example is if a patient has too much prolactin on one med but is doing well otherwise might be given a lesser amount of the med and another that doesn’t raise prolactin

There’s little to no evidence of it being more effective, and the interaction side effects and long-term consequences are mostly unknown. It should definitely be avoided in most cases.

im currently on 2 ap’s…quetiapine 800mg and clopixol 20mg…im doing okay on it

ive tried all the ap’s (so my pdoc tells me) AND WASNT GETTING BETTER so they put me on two meds

There was a guy @Om_Sadasiva that was on like 5 APs

I was on 30mg Abilify and 20mg Olanzapine at the same time

One anti psychotic was working completely fine for me. However because my prolactin was so high I had to also add aripiprazole.

So now I’m on two.

I take two. It really stabilized me. I was able to go back to school and back to work.

If that one that is supposed to treat negatives comes out next year I am going to ask for a 3rd.

I take two, but one is a low dose just so I can sleep.

personally i dont like taking loads, i only really had one at a time, for me it equals more meds and more side effects, i dont even take an anti-depressant

My last doctor wanted to try it, but it never panned out. I’ve only ever been on one at a time and in my opinion, uneducated though it may be, that should probably be the limit. The side effects from APs can be so harsh, and with two in there who knows which one of the meds is causing what.
