What's the difference between psychosis and schizophrenia?

psychosis is not being in touch with reality- includes delusions and hallucinations.Scz can include those symptoms too but also negative symptoms and it lasts longer than 6 months i think

There is still confusion because in the past every severe mental disorder was called ‘psychosis’, then only schizophrenia and bipolar, and therefore many European doctors still call schizophrenia ‘psychosis’.

yes, I think they do that out of respect. Because they do not want to talk to you about an unfavorable prognosis. The course of psychosis is better than schizophrenia.

Its a bit super complex… dont want to talk about it… i will put this infront of my doctor…!!!

Schizophrenia is a term to predict a course of mental illness. And that course goes like this: people get a psychosis and recover from it and after that they get a psychosis again. And that goes on and on.

People can have a psychosis that has such a big impact on their functioning that they have been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

If a psychosis does not pass. Also with medication you also get the diagnosis schizophrenia.

doctors often look after social functioning. It is also possible that people get multiple psychosis. But that they can function in the phases between that psychosis. So it is different per person.

You could of course also use the term psychosis sensitivity.
