It’s empty carbs and it’s weight gain that’ll get you!

I like beer. I drink a bit of it. I can’t do that regularly if I want to lose weight.

Therefore not much beer for me!

Most meds I have been on I take at night. Drinking makes the pills less effective (increase chance of relapse). Alcohol also makes people less inhibited which can be bad for a Sz. Despite this I still drink every once in a while. But only on the rarest occasions get drunk (celebrations). and when I do get drunk it’s not to the point of losing complete coherence it’s more like just getting a really good buzz.

I think it can cause side effects with the meds. I don’t drink often, maybe once a month or so. I handle it fairly well but sometimes I get nightmares the next few days. Almost like hallucinations. My guess is it’s better to be completely sober so the medication can work more properly.

Coffee. Keep the world going not so bad.

Coffee isn’t bad for sedation from the meds but can be bad if you drink lots that it’s a stimulant. Stimulants and sciz bad but a couple of coffees…tea is much more healthy for most! Isn’t a bad thing!

I drink a lot of decaffeinated coffee and it doesn’t affect my illness one bit. The trick is to buy 100% decaffeinated. And it tastes just like caffeinated.

I want to know, too.

I drink one cup of coffee a day. That would likely be a safe amount although I’m not quite sure how a stimulant could be bad unless of course it’s at higher doses.

For me, beer is bad. I’m an alcoholic. I drink a lot of coffee too. I’ve drank so much coffee that it hardly has any effect on me any more. I’ve drank ten cups of coffee a day for forty years. I finally decided just to take caffeine pills.

I drink coffee almost everyday to combat the sedation from Meds. I don’t want to fall asleep behind the wheel. I had a taste of wine at communion yesterday cuz there was no grape juice. Tasted awful.

For me, one is too many 1000 never enough. To me, alcohol is poison to the body mind and soul. I will never drink again intentionally. Weed?? I might do that again but I hope I don’t. Can say in confidence I won’t drink again. Well I could see if I smoked again it’d lead to alcohol but thanks to my meds I can only drink half a beer before throwing up. Coffee?? Used to give me panic attacks but thnx to meds can drink it again.

Even if I weren’t on naltrexone it’s unhealthy to drink on antipsychotics.

I was a highly functional drunk but only lived for those beers at the end of the day. I’m sober almost two years now and I can safely say I made decisions drinking I would never think of now. Now I’m picking up the pieces of my life and it’s exhausting. I’m not against drinking but no one should live to drink.

Mostly because any medicine that has a relaxing or sleepy effect (i.e. antipsychotics) can, in combination with alcohol, cause you to literally forget to breathe. Furthermore, alcohol is a depressant and causes disinhibition. When schizophrenics drink, and being impulsive, they can engage in risky behaviors.

Alcohol has numerous ill effects on general as well as mental health. The sedative effects of alcohol can be worsened by many psychiatric medications which can be life threatening.

In smaller amounts, caffeine has actually been considered to have some health benefits. Up to two cups of coffee daily, for example, would be a safe and potentially beneficial amount to drink. Any more than that may cause you some trouble - stomach upset, bone loss, etcetera.

I’ve never heard of coffee worsening psychosis, but that doesn’t mean it’s not possible - just very unlikely. One might be very “wired” and anxious, and this could resemble agitation from mania. However, this would not be true mania because it would dissipate after the caffeine was gone from the person’s system. If you know you get extremely agitated and “amped up” with caffeine, it might be wise to stay away from it.

Nothing. Poor guy, is he facing stigma or something? Tell him to hang in there.

Do pretzels come with it too?
