Whats a good job for us?

i’m looking for a job,

i found out that i might be able to do some permitted work and earn a little bit without affecting my benefits, so i have been looking but there is always something wrong with them,

its so hard to find a job that i can do, everybody is different though but i just thought that there might be certain kinds of things that were better suited to people with our conditions,

so has anyone got any ideas?

It took awhile to figure it out but for me any job where im instructed exactly how to do it then after the cursory monitoring of a new employee im left alone to do a good job everything works out.

When I have to deal with people and their idiosyncrasies constantly throughout the day I usually quit.

Nm, didn’t read that you’re looking for monetary gain.

idk, i guess i am looking for anything right now tbh but idk what i can do, i might do voluntary work again but i’d rather get paid

I work with kids with autism. My own personal experience with the mental health field gives me a lot of insight into how things should be handled, and what needs to change.

It comes down to how much energy you are willing to expend, especially if it’s not ABSOLUTELY necessary for you.

I believe that a few people here work as janitors it’s a solitary job with little stress.c

Yeah I did that off and on for quite a awhile.

It pays the bills and importantly for me? It helps to regulate my life.

Q: What’s a good job for us.

A: Professional lotto winner.

Just try a few things and see what suits you. Are a few agencies around that you can go through. Either with or without disability support. Depends if you want to disclose or not.

I love my job as a gardener. I’m mostly left alone… I get to be outside… It is a bit physical… I don’t lift barbells… I lift bags of seed… or topsoil. It’s not all the time.

I get to go to different places here and there… so it’s not dull.
My job helps me stay mentally healthy. I find it worth fighting and getting out of bed for.

@asgoodasitgets I think you would be very good at helping others. If that is what makes you happy and what you would see as “worth getting out of bed” for… then that’s the job for you.

thats what i would like to do but there is a catch, under permitted work rules i can only do 16hrs for 100 a week, but the catch is that i would be helping others which kind of contradicts my claim that i cant help myself, i would be doing the total opposite of what i had written on the claim form 5 yrs ago,

i could tell them that my illness is now under better control but they may change my entitlement and give me a lower amount, it is so complicated, my anxiety is also a change as it hadnt devoloped at the time of the claim but now it is really restricts what i can and cant do,

i have also got a very low thresh hold for stress unbelievably and things like working equipment like even something as simple as a brush gets me very stressed which brings on the anxiety attacks.

so you are right but it might affect my claim and i could lose a lot of money :frowning:

if i find the perfect job i could earn another 350 - 400 a month at the most, its not about the money but it certainly helps.

Might be an idea to do a nameless call to them. Ask hypothetically what you can and can’t do before the benefit gets reduced. Might change the outcome on your choices available to you.

idk i am pretty ■■■■ scared of phoning them even if it is anonymous,

the citizens advice centre has warned me about this permitted work but i am a member of a professional website and they have assured me that it is safe but still i am very worried, there is a lot at stake.

i keep getting mixed messages about this permitted work, idk who to believe, idk who to trust.

was just thinking about getting the permitted work form, filling it in and hoping for the best.

but i need to find a job and idk what i can do, havent looked for work before.

You’ll feel better for knowing by asking them. Otherwise you will most likely just stress out constantly about it.

The thing with phone calls like that we put so much pressure on doing it. But takes like 5 minutes to do. They would be the ones to ask and you will be better off knowing now rather then say have to pay money back to them. If you need more support to make the call just ask dude. We’re here for you.

thing is, they way i see it, and looking at it from there points of view (benefits agency), i would be thinking that this guy is at it (me) but i am not in reality, i have to take medicine to control myself and my new medication helps me a lot more, so on the surface i look ok, and i have pills for anxiety now as well.

there has been a change i guess, but idk how they would take that change if i told them about it.

Don’t tell them it’s you. You are also just enquiring ie what if…

Here in oz we can work something like 30 hrs a week on disability… Our disability payment does get reduced depending on how much we earn. But working as well we still come out on top money wise. We can also still use all the other benefits of disability. ie cheap public transport, reduced cost on meds etc. etc etc.

i think we might be moving that way but it is taking a long time,

it sounds like you have a better system than us,

Might be changing very soon. The Governments trying to cut back on benefits. We wont found out till the new financial year (July) But have been warned there will be changes.

i’m just trying to do the best i can and we are getting all of these changes as well :frowning: idk why they are doing it, they must really hate us :frowning:
