Do u have a job

i dont, ive never had a job before but i am thinking about applying for some. my mom thinks i should consider applying for disability and tells me that since her and my father are old maybe i should try to get disability so if something happens to them i will still be somewhat ok but i dont think i would be able to, i want a job but whenever i think about getting one i get anxious and worried. i keep telling myself that i will apply for a job after my birthday in a few months because there will be more jobs available for me than but i dont know. i dont even have a drivers license or permit because ive never driven a car or taken driving lessons. i know jobs are stressful but i need money and i dont want to be broke i will have to figure something out

why don’t you try finding an easy job?

Like data entry (can you use public transport?) or window cleaning, something fairly easy with not much learning.

You have to weight out your options. It’s normally the same on a federal level and I’m Not sure where you live but in Florida SSI ( for individuals deemed disabled by Soc Sec who do not have enough quarters paid in to get SSDI) MAX is $750/month, but you will probably get bare minimum health coverage and some food stamps. Verses getting a job etc; etc;

Im schizophrenic. Thats why im a janitor. Its a effed up job but as a sz this is exactly for me. I think that szcs are better janitors that healthy janitors.

Not an effed up job if you enjoy it. Glad to hear your at a job you Think fits you. I bet you do a good job. It’s nice to see someone take pride in thier work these days. Plus your fighting the good fight , it’s not easy to go out into the work world with sz.

If you live in the united states, I don’t think you can have disability without working for a little while first.

But honestly the thought of work makes me depressed. Even doing the dishes in my apartment don’t get finished because it is so lethargic when I do.

No, I don’t have a job. And I don’t think I need one either. I’m doing fine. I have no recent work history so, no one would hire me anyway. I work a long time volunteer job though.

I’ve had 15 jobs in my life so far. I always took my job for granted because I thought I could always get another one. I must’ve quit 3-4 jobs one year. I’ve never experienced any loyalty or job security while working. employers ask for a lot out of you, but have no loyalty. you show up to work on time everyday and they still ride your ass about production numbers.

the only job I had where I could relax was on the golf course and they were only paying me a little over minimum wage. right now I’m starting to look for work again. after 3 of 4 years of being unemployed, my voices are in remission on invega sustenna so I think I can work again.

Not all jobs are stressful.

Right now, I have a manufacturing job in which the biggest drawback is the health hazards in the environment.

They treat the employees well, and pay for very good health insurance plus short and long term disability in case the work environment causes health damage.

They treat the employees in a very relaxed and appreciative manner. I think they are just glad to have employees show up and work hard consistently, with a decent attitude, in that environment.

There is a whole big world out there, especially for young people. There are so many options, especially for young people, that even low-stress jobs exist.

I work with plants and volunteer at parks. A good hard day of labor keeps me on track. You should try and find employment if possible. Having your own source of income is a stress reliever in itself. Just make sure you keep your madness to yourself, i.e. dont drag others into your problems; everyone has problems of their own. People dont want to hear about it in most cases. Best to not share that info, in my personal experience. Good luck and happy job hunting.

That’s a good one! I actually was a “custodian” before…: I cleaned public high schools at night … it was perfect !! No one leaning down my back… as long as I got my job done it was all good

Where do you live and how does it work ? If you don’t have enough work credits in with the US then they put you under what they call SSI…

If that was meant for me then I live in the united states and I get both SSI and SSD.

Yes it was for you. That is my line of work ( go figure) however I was wondering if other countries offered disability programs. Thought you were a participant in one of those

Why?

Because I’m Mexican!?

Jk

There are a few other countries with disability programs actually. There are a few here but I don’t know which ones they are. Canada is one I know but the girl left…

@anon62371846 yes that’s what I to do at my local hospital which is in walking distance or clean floors at my grocery store which is even closer.

I guess Locksmithing is probably too far out there for me and I can do my comic book thing on EBay on a limited basis I suppose.

But to OP I’m not employed now but I will figure something out. On SSDI at the moment.

Hmmm, I’m intrigued!

I work in an office, worker’s compensation. I’m a claims manager. Lots of customer contact and decision making but I love it.

I’ve worked from 15 till 29 and a bit after for probably 3 years.

I was a good worker before psychosis and meds. I worked physical jobs and could find levels of concentration and effort others couldn’t and did well.

After medications I"ve worked a couple of years but it’s so hard. I’m only stuck in first gear these days and that is frustrating. I get paranoid and stressed and thus I don’t work!

These days I volunteer. It’s a couple of days a week for a couple of hours…It gives my life structure which is important but it’s low stress…

If you want to work…take the low stress option every time!
